Getting ready to take my M&P15 22 out for a round of golf. If you want to have fun with your kids (or you alone for that matter) try shooting some golf with a 22.

I made this stand so I can put some range balls to use. Just remember to shoot the balls and not the tee or stand. Tees are snug and can bee pushed out or drilled out if needed.

When I shoot golf balls I hang them by a string, drill a hole through the ball insert string and tie string to a nail. Different brands last longer then others. I found tennis balls to do better. The are bigger and can take more hits. With tennis ball I push the nail, maybe a 4 penny finishing, with the string attached only trough the "top" of the ball not all the way through both sides. Don't have to worry about hitting the string when you hit the ball. The advantage is you have a reactive target you don't have to stand up or put back in place. I shoot them a 50 yds.

I bought a potato sack full of old water balls ... gave most to my grandson to practice with. Noticed there were some nice titleist in there, so took them to the course. They hit like concrete.

So we take them to the range and throw them out to about 20 yrds and have at it with K22's. When you hit one square on, it will go 30yds down range.

Lots of fun.

Stormspotter,
Come on thats not a real challenge for you,if you really want to have some fun replace those golf balls with Paintballs, I have the same set up but we use the paintballs, cause they slatter when you hit them and they are a lot cheaper than golf balls! Put em in close for the kids you'll have a blast!

Here's my tennis ball holder. It's PVC, with holes drilled vertically every few inches. I insert cheap plastic cable ties from the top. The holes are small enough that the "head" of the cable tie won't slip through. Cut a slit in each ball, press with your thumb to open the gap and insert the end of the tie.
Sometimes the balls go flying and sometimes not. I like not having any wire or nails involved that might get in a lawnmower tire.
The other picture is my 80-gallon tank (an old farm well pressure tank) that we use to fill various containers destined for splattsville.

I'm going to have to try that golf ball holder and also the tennis ball idea. We usually shoot golf balls at 75 meters on the ground. It would be much more fun with shooting them like you are doing.

I help oversee an apartment complex locally and there is a driving range next to it. Everytime I go there I can pick up 12 - 15 balls, so I have a pretty good supply on hand.

Very sweet set up...I like, Like, LIKE!

we actually PLAY golf with them! start at about 20 foot tee off and we take orange spray paint and make about a 3 foot diameter circle on the sand or grass wherever we are playing. you get to use as many balls as you want since they get tore up, but the object is the same as golf, get the ball as close to the center of the circle in the least amount of shots. some of the guys can hit the side of the ball so that it just chips into the circle or the dirt in front of it. pretty fun way to spend and afternoon

You know you have to make a Youtube of this!
Hmmm. My tennis racquets are just about worn out and I was about to order new ones. Forget that. I can't wait to see the look on my opponent's face when I pull the 15-22 out of my bag!

Ive heard charcoal briquets are fun to, turns into a black puff when you hit them.

I've taken fishing line and run it through metal eyes drilled into them. Lots of fun, but lots of resets when you hit the line. I like some ideas here, I'll have to try some of these out.

Below: the effects of a .22, 9mm, and .45.

I don't know if shooting golf balls with a .22 are similar to shooting them with a PCP (pre-charged pneumatic) pellet gun of .25 cal. FPS with a PCP is around 1000-1300, close to a .22 Since golf balls are wound so tight, it's fact that pellets have been known to ricochet off of them and in some instances back at the shooter. I think another commentor has a better idea and that's to shoot at paint balls. JMHO

I like the idea of the frozen potato. I'll have to give that a try. The only problem is the 45 minute drive to the range and I do it on a motorcycle, saves money, so no room for a cooler. On the golf balls I tried cup hooks but they let loose after 3 or 4 direct hits. Deck screws works well and I would think sheet rock screw would work well. Here are a couple of golf balls and a tennis ball after a few rounds.

Any fruit that is going bad - orange, grapefruit, apples, lemons, etc - are also good and explode nicely when hit - and birds will generally clean up the resulting mess for you. Most grocers will give you stuff that they can't sell.
