Shooting Super High With Model 36

Definitely consider throwing some paint onto the front sight - it made a big difference for me when I had a Model 36. Testors enamel model paint works well, and it comes in a convenient paint pen.

That said, I ended up selling that 36 and buying a snub-nosed Model 10 to replace it. I just tend to shoot K-frames better, and their sights are easier for me to acquire.

Is it just my eye's or does that front sight look awfully low? Could be a cause.

Hmm. Maybe Don't have another one from mid 1980's to compare it to. Why would someone do that?I'm looking at it now. Doesn't appear to me to be filed, but maybe the same one who ground down the hammer did the front sight. I have another post on my 36 as it came. Hammer was bobbed down.

Are you properly burying the front sight blade in the rear groove (fixed sights) or in the rear blade (adjustable sights?)

They could be the issue. I was drawing and sighting with it yesterday. Unloaded of course. The black on black tiny sight picture and I was holding it at a slight upward angle to see the front sight. Some sight paint should help with that.

Also, there is a consensus that the sight was filed down. Maybe. I'll compare it with my 640 from 1993. The 36 is from 1986. I do know this was an NYPD gun and went through 2 officers. The last one retired in 2010. The Job did go to 135 grain ammo in about 2002 or so. The last guy to qualify with it might have had low scores if the sights are sighted in with 158 grain, which is what we used to carry. The range staff could have filed the sight down, and the hammer was definitely bobbed a bit, both by someone with at least a fair amount of skill because the work isn't obvious or crude.

Eh. No real matter. Doubt I'll carry it much if ever. Just another piece for the collection. At self defense ranges, all 5 were landing in the kill zone. Doubt the perp would know if the 5 shots in his torso were 2 inches higher than they should be.

Just don't like sucking this bad with any gun. I've been shooting too long, although admittedly J frames get almost no range time from me. I took my .380 Bodyguard to that same range and shot exclusively at 25 yards since the range was crowded and I couldn't move up. All torso hits. Certainly not in the same hole but all in the grey of a B27 target. And I shoot the Bodyguard MAYBE once a year.

The front sight, to me, does not look like it has been altered. I would recommend testing the revolver by shooting it from a rest position, perhaps even have another person who has experience with small frame revolvers test fire it.
