Shortening a barrel

I have a 929 I'm thinking of having the barrel cut back to 5 inches. The gun just doesn't balance well in my hands. Has anyone done this, did you like the results?

S&W made the PERFORMANCE CENTER® Model 986 in 5" barrel and got complaints from the revolver competition crowd, so they made the 929 specifically for the revolver competitors to match the new USPSA revolver rules: 8 shot, 6.5" barrel. It is purposely long and nose-heavy.
Did you buy the 929 for competition, or for a fun range gun? If the latter, the 986 might be just what you seek.

There's a guy in our steel shooters league that had his barrel cut back to lighten the 929. If you are on Facebook, you can search Pa Steel Shooters League and it will come up with their Facebook page. You will have to scroll through the pages, but the shooter's name is there if you want to message him. He's a nice guy and fast shooter. The gun looks nice, but is equipped with a C-More scope. No more front sight on his 929.

Agree By the time you get done having the barrel cut, re-sighted, finished, etc; why not sell what you have and buy a gun you like?

AS A GENERAL RULE, YOU WILL NEVER RECOVER THE MONEY YOU SPEND "CUSTOMIZING" A HANDGUN TO SUIT YOUR PERSONAL PREFERENCE. YOU ARE MUCH BETTER OFF SELLING YOUR UNALTERED GUN, AND BUYING ONE THAT BETTER MEETS YOUR NEEDS.....
