waiting for my new glasses to come in . my eye med doctor commented on a couple of eye lid skin tags on my right eye lid. ( he took a picture of this with some kind of special camera , looked like pumpkins when highly magnified ! ) he wants me to act in a few weeks on going to a specialist to have these removed . my eye lid is being weighted down somewhat with these in place . he briefly commented about this, has to be numbed followed by a shot ! i did know an older man who had a series of these and he told me he actually got used to doing this . but WOW , this really scares me !
why can't they put a person out to do this ? has anyone else had this situation ? i have had shots in the back , knee & foot but never in the eye !
hope there is some encouragement in the near future.

Although general anesthesia has come a long way and is much safer than it used to be, it still has its risks. General anesthesia is reserved for more extensive procedures. Removing skin tags, warts and moles are fast and easy procedures with minimal discomfort. The numbing may sting a little but it lasts but a second. In fact, the numbing for this procedure may have no discomfort at all. The cost is vastly different, too.

Removing skin tags is a pretty benign procedure, often done without anesthesia of any sort.

Sounds like they're going to do a local and then snip them off.

If your eye guy isn't an MD, the explanation you got may have been a bit garbled.

I had a balky blocked tear duct last year that eventually required a steroid shot in my eyelid  The doc said "are you ready?" I said "yyyes." A little numbing agent, then a mosquito bite and done. Really sounds much worse than the actual. If you need it, then do it!

I had some swelling of the retina in one of my eyes a few years ago. After trying eyedrops that failed to reduce the swelling, the doctor injected a small "pill" directly into the eyeball, which solved the problem after a couple of months. The idea of an injection like that is worse than the reality, but I'm glad I didn't need a second dose.

My MBH got a shot, the 2nd one, in her right eye, (eyeball) just this last Wednesday. She actually got 2 shots, one to deaden the eye and then the actual shot. She didn't cry, whimper or whine. :-)

Have a blessed day,

Leon

My mom has Macular Degeneration and gets shots in her eyeballs every 8 weeks. They put numbing drops in her eyes and she doesn't feel the needles at all.

She is, however, as tough as a 50¢ steak.

My dad must have something like that. He has to get a shot in his eye every month or two.

What ever problem he has, his eye will never get better, but with the shots won't get worst. If he didn't get them he'd go blind in that eye.

He said the shot doesn't hurt, but his eye really does the next day. It looks really bad for a few days too.

That's why I don't go to doctors. They'll always find something wrong with you.

I honestly feel this way.

I went 11 or 12 years without any blood work.

Doc told me I had to get my blood looked at. Told him I cut myself a while back, and it looked, felt, and even tasted fine.

The man has no sense of humor at all.

Sure enough found out my cholesterol was bad. Got it fixed thou.

I'm 63 and have had more blood tests in the past year then my entire life. Last one I got made 6 total for me. He wants more when I go in a couple weeks, but I forgot.

If they are removing them from your eyelid, should be one and done, no? When they inject your eyelid, you'll feel some pressure. You won't feel any pain when they get rid of the skin tags, but you may smell some burning skin (electro scapel). Like a boxer after a fight, for a couple days, you'll need to ice your eyeslid. Afterwards, it's uncomfortable for a couple days, but not painful.

Find a plastics guy that does a lot of eyelid lifts (blepharoplasty) and has a solid reputation. Ask your eye doc and your primary care doc who they would see if they had to have it done. They know people's reputation.

Dear Rock and Roll:

I have had that treatment, every couple of weeks for a injection directly in the eyeball.

Not going to say that it is a piece of cake but you can do it. For crissakes, if I can screw up the courage to walk through them doors every couple of weeks for three years then you can do it.

While I do enjoy making people squirm discussing it, it really is not as bad as it sounds like. Its not comfortable, the thought of what the doctor is actually doing is worse then getting the shot to begin with. Its really not that bad.

Dial up your courage, you can do this.

Regards,
Crankster

My insurance requires yearly wellness check ups as well as semiannual blood panels (at no cost to me). As far as I am concerned a big PITA. But it's nice to know everything is holding steady. I DO have one issue-the hair is starting to get a bit thin on D top and my wife says I need to change my hair color on my drivers license-something about "It hasn;t been brown for years" I told her well I ain't been 165 pounds in a while either but at least it is a reminder of what was.

Piece of cake, I've had these removed a number of times.

The needle is not in the eye, but in the eyelid; stings a bit, but no problem after that. It's much safer and less costly than general anesthesia. And you won't have to see the needle or the scalpel, because your eyes are closed so he can get at the thing.

Don't go to a dermatologist, but a plastic surgeon. They regularly operate on eyelids - blepharoplasty to fix baggy eyelids.
I'd recommend having the tags excised with a scalpel rather than snipped with scissors. Quite a few of my skin tags that were snipped have grown back. If the tag is big, you may need a stitch in your eyelid. You might feel the ends of the thread when you blink, but that's a minor annoyance for about a week until the stitch is removed. Other than the annoyance of the thread end, I went about life as normal as soon as I left the surgeon's office. No swelling, patching, icing, itching, nothing.
