shot in t he eye ..... anyone ever have this ?

One windy Spring day I took a direct hit in the eye from one of those Maple seed "helicopters." Hurt like the Dickens for a while, then subsided. A month later I had blurry vision and tearing in that same eye. The eye doc said I had a piece of splinter from the Maple seed embedded in my eye and that it had become infected. He said he was going to drill it out. Naturally my reaction was "Your'e going to drill on my eye?" Yes he said

All they did was put a bunch of numbing drops in my eye and had me put my face up against that bracket. He told me to hold still and I could literally see this spinning drill bit coming at me. Really hard to hold still as a sharp, pointy rotating object is approaching your eyeball. It didn't hurt and TBH the worst part was I had to get an expensive bottle of eyedrops and put them in every few hours for the next three days. That was worse than the actual drilling.

But the entire purpose of my rant here is to let the OP know that it isn't the big deal that it sounds like. TBH I'm more dreadful of the dentist poking my sensitive teeth with their cold steel pick.

I have Wet Macular Degeneration in both eyes and take shots every six weeks. Enough deadening drops is the answer to not hurting. Not enough it is very uncomfortable(same as hurts).
One thing to do is insist on deadening after they finish cleaning the **** out of your eyes. It will ease the after burn in your eyes.

My mom has Macular Degeneration and gets shots in her eyeballs every 8 weeks. They put numbing drops in her eyes and she doesn't feel the needles at all.

She is, however, as tough as a 50¢ steak.

I have Macular Degeneration in my left eye. Approx. every 12 weeks I get an injection into the eyeball. The eye is numbed and I don't feel the needle except for a tiny sensation when it is inserted into the eyeball. Been getting the injection for several years now.

My dad must have something like that. He has to get a shot in his eye every month or two.

What ever problem he has, his eye will never get better, but with the shots won't get worst. If he didn't get them he'd go blind in that eye.

He said the shot doesn't hurt, but his eye really does the next day. It looks really bad for a few days too.

His condition is called Wet Macular Degeneration which is as I was told caused by blood vessels leaking. I have the same thing. After about five or six injections they say mine is now stabilized and will only need to be checked every few months and if if doesn't get worse then I won't need anymore injections however on the other hand if it worsens again then I will need more injections.

I was, to just put it very bluntly terrified my first time to the point of almost being in tears but, it is painless. As someone else already said they numb your eye first and then the injection and you never feel it tne worst part is the dilation and getting back to normal from that.

info is nice ...

to have . and i thank all .
i am having therapy on a shoulder right now , for a few more weeks . it is after this that i will contact my eye doctor for the appointment to be made with the eye specialist for the procedure. my eye doctor is very good & a experienced doctor , so i feel confident following his advise.
didn't hear anyone mentioning wearing an eye patch..... so that is a positive note !

I have had skin tags, moles, stuff I call barnacles taken off me for years. I got a couple hanging around my eye that I've considered getting removed. My doc used to use a little burner to fry them off, either that or liquid nitrogen on a q-tip. The burner fries them instantly, a little sting is all, they can adjust the amount of energy it takes. I've also used a pair of nail clippers to take them off, quick pinch, all done...might bleed a bit.

Worked in a machine shop and I once had the same done to remove a metal shaving from my eye. As a manager, I used that experience many times to convince workers to wear the darn safety glasses.

The Dr. used liquid cocaine to numb the eyeball to curette scar tissue off the cornea. Never felt a thing.
