Shot my 586 L-Comp Today, and...

It is not that unusual for me to shoot my 586 L-Comp. But today was different from shooting it other days. I found this cool challenge over on the "Concealed Carry & Self Defense" section of this forum. Rastoff's Challenge...

The course of fire into a 2"x3" target is as follows:
4 shots from 3 yards
6 shots from 5 yards
6 shots from 7 yards
4 shots from 10 yards

You must get all 20 rounds into the 2"x3" target. Must be shot cold with no warm up. And it must be shot with a gun you use for concealed carry. So no 6" 629s allowed.


I successfully did it today with my L-Comp! The challenge has been up there for a while. I think only 4 people have successfully done it. I guess I am the 5th. But I'm pretty sure I am the only person to have done it with a Double Action Wheelgun!

Just trying to make us Wheelgunners look respectable! Though in all honesty I though I would have done it with my FN Five Seven first. I have been trying with several guns for the past bunch of weeks. It is much harder than you think. You should definitely try it.

My 20 round target for Rastoff's Challenge from my tuned 586 L-Comp:

In all honesty, it is the gun. My 586 is so perfectly tuned, and the gun is so accurate, it is hard to miss what you are aiming at. I would think anyone could do this challenge with my 586. I have tried it with an FN Five Seven, 65 LadySmith, 627 PC, 9mm Shield, Glock 17, Glock 19, 22 Thunder Ranch, 625JM, 5904, 3914 Ladysmith, and a few others. I could only pull it off with the 586.

Thanks! And for more props for us wheelgunners, I also did a pretty decent job with my 65 LadySmith as well. Not bad for a fixed sight DA revolver with a 10lb trigger pull. Because of its weight, size, balance, fixed sights, power, and excellent factory trigger, I strongly feel the 65 LS is the ultimate carry/combat revolver. I am actually wearing it in a new Mernickle holster right now.

My new Mernickle holster for my 65LS that arrived today. It is their Concealed Carry Performance Series PS6-DA. So far I like it quite a bit. Rides at the perfect height and nice and tight to the body.

I've been trying but haven't made it yet with a wheelgun....granted I "could" use my Blackhawk as I do carry it some around the place....

I think you'll like the PS6 as a lot of people who carry a SA revolver use them and have nothing but good things to say.

Have you had additional tuning done to it after purchase? If so, what and by whom? My 586 L-Comp was tuned by TK Custom; and, they replaced the sights for Tritium by XS Systems; and, I am agency qualified with the 586 L-Comp.

I was also able to kick up a little sand locally (3rd picture), however it was with a 9mm full size carbon steel 1911 by Wilson Combat; but, I am trying to repeat with a 627 8-Shot (pictured), and I do carry that revolver at times and I don't the 1911).

We actually PM'ed about this when you first got your L-Comp. The action was "Carmonized" buy a smith who did a lot of work for competition shooters, Mike Carmoney. Now retired. The DA trigger pull is about 5 lbs. TK is about as close as you can come to the kind of work he did. Not only is the hammer bobbed, but it has special cuts and sections taken out to improve hammer speed. I have never seen/felt an action like it. Any serious shooter who pulls the trigger is speechless.

I actually bought it used on GB with the action/tuning work already done, never having heard of Carmoney. I did the research only after I received the gun and was blown away by the action. I got a pretty amazing deal on it. Less than what a new one goes for. I would not sell this gun for any price, as it cannot be replaced, and I have never seen this work replicated.

I added the SDM fiber optic sight and Ahrends grips.

Anytime one of you guys are down in South Florida and want to take her for a spin, let me know.
