I finally got a chance to test fire my 2 617s together. I put a Burris Strike Force on my 4 inch and put an LPA rear sight on my 6 inch. Both needed to be sighted in.

I went to a new indoor range. It's 20 miles from my house but it's all highway driving whereas my normal indoor range is 15 miles but moslty covered with stop lights. It takes the same amount of time to get to each so I'll have to evaluate which one I'll go to. Both are from the same company, Shooter's World. I joined 30 years ago before they opened and bought a family membership.

Well, getting back to today. I started at 15 yards, shooting the 4 inch. First group was impressive for me, off hand.

I fired 100 rounds keeping most in the 10 ring but had a few extend to the 8. I'm sighted in now and ready for my next Steel Challenge. Went through the 100 rounds pretty quick, while using my DS-10 speed loaders.

I then took out my 6 inch with the new iron sights. I install a green fiber opting recently and mounted my LPA rear. It gives a much nicer sight picture then the stock sight. I need to adjust it a little to the right but not much.

It was a short practice session, only shooting 100 rounds through each gun. Both are set at 8 pound double actions so that the majority of ammo I shoot will all funciton. I shot Remington Golden Bullets and had 2 failure to fire's. I shot 100 rounds of CCI Blazer in the 6 inch and every one went off.

For now I'm going to leave things alone.

Nice, a 617 is on mywant list. For now my low recoil, fun round is with .38 Wadcuttters in the M66.
My supply of standard SP primers is dwindling though.
CCI Magnum SP primers have been available though the last few months at Sportsman's Warehouse and Cal Ranch stores in Prescott and Flagstaff so I'll be using more of them.

I picked up a 63-3 last year, I like the thing but it's harder for me to hit with the J-frame .22.

My older brother and I both had 6 inch M17's when I was in high school.
He was on the pistol team of a PD in a big Texas city.
He shot a 6 inch K frame .38 for competition (and won the Nationals a couple years), so he got all the ammo he wanted for practice.

Of course that included .22 ammo as he told them he used the M17 for practice too.
He'd come down to visit and bring a small pallet of .22 ammo.
I don't recall any speedloaders for .22s in the early 70s or we would have been using them.
I did get pretty good putting my hand in a jeans pocket for ammo and coming up with 6 rounds nearly every time !

Nice! Would you mind posting a picture of the one with the LPA sights? I was just looking at their website at those. I believe that the TFTO2F1 is the correct model for the 617.

Nice shooting! I use a Fastfire 3 on my 617, and it's been "follow the bouncing ball" here lately. If I get my 617 below about 8lb DA pull, I have FTFs. Otherwise, it shoots everything. I've been shooting the Federal auto match without any problems. My shooting sessions are much shorter than yours though, because my gun barrel cylinder gap is too small, and I've been too lazy to send it in for repair. Might get around to it one of these days. Lol.
