Shot my Highway Patrolman in IDPA, and an issue

Just brought home a set of feeler gauges and took some measurements. When I picked it up and didn't touch the cylinder, the .0015" gauge could barely slide through. It was dragging on the forcing cone and cylinder when I did get it in there, so I'll call that .0010". Same as when I pushed the cylinder forward. Pulling the cylinder back, I can get the .007" gauge in freely and easily. The .008" goes with some resistance. The .009" will not go at all. So I've got roughly .006-.007" of endplay. I ordered a 10 pack of .002" bearings which will be arriving Friday so I'll be fixing that soon. Thank you everyone for all the help!

Shimming out the endplay moves the cylinder back and opens the gap. Both of which you needed to correct.

MY M28 has little shake but it was way tight on cylinder gap. A helpful machinist stoned it back to about 5 thou. And left it smoother and more even working freehand. 25 years experience is a big help getting things done well.

I suspect you have found your problem.

Yeah I'd say so! I'm gonna go check all of my Smiths now

Ahhh, might want to check with a gunsmith before you start changing things. From the #'s you stated sounds like your B/C gap is correct.

FWIW , Just checked my old S&W 586-1 it has a B/C of .010.. And my newest S&W, a 929 which has a B/C of .009.
