A few months ago, I bought a very nice, 5", Model 27-2, in the presentation case, with all the tools and papers. It had been fired, but still looked like new to me. Yesterday I took it to the range for the first time. According to the story I was told the previous owner had been a well known local gunsmith who only fired wadcutters through it (reminded me of the "little old lady who only drove it on Sunday" story).
I'm not going to bore you with details. The range only has a seven yard pistol range, so naturally it shot the center out of the target with 158 gr lead, RNFP, reloads. What I'm going to brag on is the trigger. If the gun did indeed belong to the old boy who's name was mentioned, he must have done some of his best work on this gun. Man this thing has a sweet trigger. I don't know, maybe it came from the factory this way, I understand Model 27's were some of S&W's best work, but I was impressed.
I've always said I didn't know the difference between a good trigger and a bad one. I do now.
