I really wanted to go grouse hunting since it wasn't raining in my part of the U.P. today.
However, my son, the Bullseye shooter, wanted to go to the indoor range and practice for Perry 2008. So to the range we went.
I took my Smith 1917 with the Brazilian crest along. Ammo was reloads with LRN and FMJ bullets and Cor-Bon Auto Rim loads.
The old gun has Pachmayr Presentations and an Evans Wonder Sight on it these days. It liked the Cor-Bon ammo, but seemed to like my reloads with the pulldown FMJs about as well.
(I wish I'd bought 10,000 of those when I had the chance. I've shot them in .45s from the 1917 to a custom pin gun with a Commander or two in 45 ACP but or two in between and they always shot well. I have even fired them from a couple of .45ACP burp guns and they did OK in them too).
I introduced a couple of younger shooters who are mostly autopistol guys to the 1917 and they were generally impressed. I left the range wondering why it had been so long since I shot the old war horse.
My son also had a good practice.
It was a good night.
