I think Ruger is going to slap a pair if CT grips on the new 357LCR. Taurus has a polymer framed Public Defender out now. S&W is not planning anything really new this year to my knowledge. The New Bodyguard got kind of a lukewarm reception by most people and IMHO won't last more than a couple years. This is probably going to be a dull year for shot show with the known exception of the KelTec bullpup shotgun.
However, they COULD easily steal the show by simply showing up with the alot of current product line "sans ILS."
It would be awesome and leave all the ILS guns in the same category as "New Coke." Bring back the original formula before everyone switches to Pepsi... I mean Ruger! Think about S&W.

My engineer friend at S&W says that there will be some new items but apparently nothing revolutionary.

Anyone know why there has been so little done with this frame. I liked the 500 but was not all that into the 460. Still you would think that they would do more with this.

I'm going to the SHOT Show again this year and I'm looking forward to it.
I agree that the S & W Bodyguard 38 is nothing to write home about but I do like the Bodyguard .380 Auto they brought out. I thought S & W did a nice job on it and it is selling very well in my area.
As always I hope to see more non-IL revolver models from S & W...

Colt is supposed to be bringing back the Colt New Frontier Single Action Revolvers which I am interest in but Colt is also supposed to be introducing the Colt SAA revolver in Stainless Steel which I have no interest in....
Winchester for 2011 has the Model 1892 Lever Action Carbine in .357 mag, .44 mag, 44/40 and .45 Colt for around $1000 MSRP (much better than the $1,500+ models that Winchester has been bringing out lately). I want to take a look at it as I think I may have a .44 Magnum and .45 Colt 1892 carbine in my future....
I'll also be interested in seeing the new Browning 1911 .22 LR handgun that they are bringing out and as this is 2011, I expect to see numerous "100 year specials" of 1911 items at the Show.
I have my walking shoes ready to go......

I've long thought that a 9 or 10 shot .357 on this frame size would be a LOT of fun! It'd be heavy enough to negate a lot of recoil, and if a guy wanted to lug it around, it might be cool for IDPA!

You think that this could be real? I know a couple of years ago I ended up doing an outline survey from them and there was a question about whether or not I'd buy a gun like this.

Ok, I'll bite, I like it!!! I want it, it'll go with my other freak... SW500.. I'm from Mass, can't have the judge anyways, in a year maybe Smith will get it legal to sell in Mass... the Governor... should have called it Da Govenater....
Saw the Governor. No thanks. A couple 1911's with some bells and whistles.
I think the best thing I saw was a display of some of the guns used in movies. Dirty Harry's .44 and the 627 UDR blood work gun. Definetly like the fluted cylinder better. Pics to follow.
Oh, and Colt brought back the Mustang.

New from Smith & Wesson Custom Shop
The Smith & Wesson Custom Shop announced three new products for SHOT specifically for the handgun hunting market. If you are not familiar with the Custom Shop, these are not special order guns. Smith & Wesson maintains the Custom Shop to provide consumers with handguns that are a notch above, and have features and usability that would otherwise be done in an aftermarket setting by a gunsmith. By offering these guns as standard catalog items, S&W can provide its customers with a custom grade action job, a 10 pound recoil spring, integral accessory rails, fluted barrels, compensators and custom finishes, none of which are stock on an out of the box Smith & Wesson.
The first gun is the Model 629 in all stainless with a vapor deposition process coating. It comes with a Leapers red and green dot sight, a compensator and trigger block. The Model 629 is of course a .44 Magnum and capable of taking most North American game. The MSRP is $1,329.
The new Custom Shop Model 67 is a .17HMR masterpiece with a 12" fluted barrel, custom wood grip, and includes both a bi-pod and the same red dot, green dot scope. MSRP is $1,299.
And the big boy in our line up is the 460, one of Smith & Wesson's super revolvers that has come to us only within the last few years. This new model is a custom package that includes an un-fluted cylinder (which is stronger and can withstand more pressure from hot loads), a 14" fluted barrel, a custom muzzle break made specifically for this .460 caliber pistol, and it ships with the bi-pod. MSRP is $1,419.

just looked at the 629 and 647 performance center on S&Ws website.....

The "Governor" is as bad in person as it shows in the pictures. In addition, when asked about the .327 in a K-Frame, the response was, "Well, we made it in a J-Frame and that's not selling well, so I wouldn't think we would". Even spoke with Jimmy Rae from the custom shop - he said never say never, but don't hold your breath.
The movie/TV gun display was small, but nice - a Bloodwork, Clint's 29, a 5906 used by some chick (sorry,not a movie goer), a 645 from Miami Vice, and a Model 10 from Shutter Island, I think. Maybe 1 or 2 others.

RWJ, thanks for bringing up that a K frame .327 is needed. Go back there tommorow and kick the guy in the shin and yell "The .327 in a K Frame is EXACTLY what is NEEDED"!!!
