I have the opportunity to buy a Model 657 with 4" barrel. I am not sure what dash number the gun is, but the seller is getting me that info tonight. The gun has very nice target stocks on it. No box. Additionally, the gun is in excellent shape. Not sure what I should offer. Thoughts/suggestions??? I am thinking that the seller is asking $475.

The seller also has a Model 657 with a 6" barrel. I am not sure of the dash number on it either. Has target stocks in nice shape. Overall shape of the revolver is very good as well. No box. I think the seller is asking $500 for this one.

To make matters worse, the seller also has a Model 624 with a 6" barrel(not sure about dash number) and a pinned barrel blued 45 LC with a 4" barrel. All have target stocks and are in very good shape. I think that $400 - $500 would buy either one of these guns also.

I have been saving up and wanting to buy some of the more oddball square trigger guard transitional .45s (RSR -- 6454, 6452, 6451, and/or 6450). This would deplete that fund. I know as sure as I splurge on some of these revolvers, the day after I spend the money there will be 5 of the 2nd-3rd generations that I have been searching for show up for sale.

Currently, I don't have a 41 Mag. I have 38s, 357s, 380s, 22s, 9mms, and 45s. This would be just another hungry mouth to feed. I have had 44 Mags in the past. In the current ammo frenzy, I am not sure that I can even find ammo for these guns. If I don't get one or some of these guns, I know I will look back and kick myself for not taking the plunge. Any of these purchases would be strictly between the seller and me with no tax or transfer fees.

Thanks. If I get any or all of them, pics will follow.

All the above are excellent deals in the $500 range. The 4" 657, 624 would be the least common and must be without a dash/engineering change, and I would guess the .45 Colt is a 25-5.

Be prepared for the rush of "can you give the contact info for the seller" messages if you don't promise to buy them all :).

If you do it right you could buy all four, keep the one you want, and end up with the same amount of money as when you started.

But I'd probably keep two or three out of the four, myself. However, I'm not much into modern auto-loading pistols.

At those prices I would suggest floating a loan. Seriously. They will increase in value if in very good to excellent condition and therefore probably increase over the value of many "common" investments.

Even if fired; if they are properly maintained they will rise in value.

Good luck, I hope you can buy all of them, or as many as you can.

Brother, buy all four, even at the asking price if you have to. Those are fair prices in my opinion. Around here it seems any N frame starts in the $600 area. Try to find one of those in your lgs or at the gun show, prices will be much higher. I would love to have any of the four of them personally, but I am not really into auto loaders. If you can't get them all, get just one and you won't be disappointed.

My first born would be on the market and I'd get all four of them. If you don't get them, you'll regret it later.

Good luck,
Steve

Some good advice here.

I would definately be all over those .41 magnums, the .45 Colt as well. Not so much the model 624. But it is a nice gun also.

Lots of good advice from everyone. Regarding the 4" 657 question, it is totally a personal thing. I had both but sold the 6" and kept the 4". You can not go wrong with either. I really like the balance of the 4" and it is more esthetically pleasing to the eye. JMO

I am envious...I too would take them all. N Frames here are $700+ easily.

If you can afford them, take them all (or as many as you can!)

Still trying to work a deal. Will post pics if I the deal goes through.

A 4 inch 657 is alot like hen's teeth, pretty scarce. I've been wanting another for some time now. Unfortunately, mine will be even more scarce having to be an "in state" gun. Get the .41Magnums at least if you can handle the outlay of cash. YMMV.
