I clicked "record" on Blazing Saddles which is start now on AMC. I figured my youngest (18) would find it amusing. It's funny as all get out, but even edited for TV it would make the PC police blow a fuse.:D

So do I; expose the lad to true "Americana" or keep him sheltered from the evils of whatever it is we are supposed to protect them from?

What's a father to do?
Or better yet, what would Mongo do?

It is imperative you do not record it and show it to your son!

Blazing Saddles is only meant to be viewed in it's total unedited splendor.:D

Find the DVD or tape.

Also do not forget the great classics such as: Stripes, Caddy Shack, Monty Python and The Holy Grail, etc...

You get my drift.;)

I have the DVD, and have seen the edited TV version. The TV version is practically the ruination of an amazing film. Watch the DVD in its unedited glory.

Also, 18 is the prefect age for Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Absolutely, as it has some of the greatest lines in the history of cinema. I do not mean the watered down version. Get the real deal.

It is important to watch with him and point out how the meaning of satire and parody.

Mel Brookes did a outstanding job and am so glad he made it when he did. I saw a little blurb somewhere with him saying in today's environment the movie could not be made.

Sad to think groups cannot laugh at themselves.

Mongo would show the movie unedited and if there were any questions? id look forward to answering them the best I could.

PC==to being an *******.

PS, DONT FORGET the classic: Wholly Moses w/ Richard Pryor etc. Get my drift? :D

18?!! I think he should watch anything at that age. My mom took me with her to the show around 1962 when I was five because she wanted to see Psycho, so that's where I'm coming from.

Our two sons and one of their buddies watched "Quest for Fire" when they were about 12-13 years old. It was real entertainment for my wife and I to listen to them. They had all seen it before and knew the good parts. What a riot!

Mel Brookes did this movie as a satire and that's what it is. To me it's really a shame EVERYONE can't view it as such and enjoy the movie for what it is .
Anyone viewing this who thinks it's racist needs a brain infusion and has the same mentality that for a long time caused Song of the South NOT to be released here.

My wife had an inadequate understanding of the movie "Airplane" when it first hit the screens. Somehow she thought it was a kid's comedy.

She took our seven year old daughter and four of the neighbor kids to an afternoon showing.... then spent that evening apologizing to the parents... and the next six years trying to explain away the "blow up pilot" scene to our daughter.

For some reason, she never got an answer that she'd totally buy... so she kept asking.

I concur with the other posters. Get the unedited version. The message and humor Mel Brooks intended cannot be fully appreciated otherwise.

Absolutely this! The AMC version will be edited garbage, and filled with commercials. AMC is completely worthless these days. TCM (Turner Classic Movies) is the channel to watch for old films (although I don't think they ever show Blazing Saddles).

Find the DVD!!!
