Should I record Blazing Saddles for my kid to watch?

Sooo true. My kids are in public school but they are gun totin Republicans! My. 14 y/o daughter laughed hysterically at Blazing Saddles. She about as PC as I am.

I have at least two good friends as educators. One is a teacher in Longview, Washington, the other a School Principal in Michigan. Both are Republican/Conservative, collect guns as well as WWII German militaria. Oh only if the others knewwwwwwwww. :D Anyway, they were the ones to admit to me--that in their areas--that they were out-numbered by 90% and 85%. Also, being outnumbered means-that few they know--collect guns. Several years ago--I bought one of Ted's guns--which was a Walther P-38. I still have it and it gets to "speak" now and then. :D

I disagree. My parents thought Hope and Crosby in Black Face was a hoot. I found it quite disturbing.

Why is that so disturbing? Ive seen some famed comedians using white face as well. Look at the gent--I cant think of his name at this time?) who appeared in many Three Stooges episodes who did the opposite of Hope and Crosby. Nobody took offense at it, as it wasnt done in a mean-spirited way. Whats wrong with today is--nobody wants to relax and all they do is look for an excuse to moan and groan.

Off soapbox now. ;-))

Why, what an insightful, intelligent, civil comment.

The question is not whether the kid can watch it, of course he can. He is an 18 year old adult.

The question is whether he will appreciate the movie. And I'm sorry, but Race Humor, even spot-on satirical race humor, is a theme whose time has passed.

Respectfully and fully disagree. That said, why is it that some cannot sit back and relax and enjoy something. You know what some of Brooks comedy is called? its called: P-a-r-o-d-y. That means, its done in jest--not done to be mean.

Ever hear of Denis Leary? that guy made it "big" making fun of everyone. Get his CD: No cure for cancer---and you will see what im getting at. ;)

Why would you not show it to him? I agree with the others, find an unedited version.

The racial comedy is beautiful and makes a statement wrapped in humor.

Check out the $5 dollar DvD bins at WM. That's where I found my copy.

There are other comedy classics that are good too, such as the Trinity trilogy. They are what is known as spaghetti westerns and the titles are:
They call me Trinity.
Trinity is still my name.
My name is nobody.

Get it on DVD or Blue Ray and wrap it nicely.....
Candygram for Mongo! and deliver it appropriately!

Got to disagree with you on this. Political Correctness is what is destroying this Country. Race is exactly what it is. Mel Brooks brings that to light by poking fun at all the races, and stereotypes. Blazing Saddles is a classic. When we can no longer poke fun and have a laugh at ourselves we have lost much as a people.

That said, the televised version is horrible and almost unfit to watch, however I still watch it every time it comes on. ..

Yep

Boy I sure miss Archie, Edith, Meathead an the daughter. also, wasnt The Jeffersons a spin-off from this show? I loved watching that show as well as Sandford and Son. Didnt care much for Good Times-though. BTW, Sherman Hemsley died a couple years ago--he was also a resident of I think? El Paso? or Laredo? here in Texas.

George Jefferson was introduced in the episode where Archie wants to see the Mets, but instead has a dinner date with the Jeffersons. Jefferson shows up and quickly catches wind of Archie's attitude and calls him out and they end up having a razzberry spitting contest. Mrs. Jefferson comes in and reveals that this Jefferson is not her husband but her Brother in law. When Archie asks why the real Mr. Jefferson isn't there, he's told that he didn't want to come and went to see the Mets play.

This was a landmark episode and there were a LOT of landmark episodes in that series.

I got introduced to is show when I spent the weekends at my Grandmothers house. She watched it religiously every Friday night as well as Maude and then Carol Burnett. My grandmother was a very church-going lady and had no ean bones in her body for anyone---yetloved All In the Family.

"Redrum, redrum, REDRUM!"
"All work and no play makes a Jack a dull boy".
