Should I sell M&P FS9mm & get Shield

My son in law has decided to possibly purchase my M&P FS 9mm. I have also a .45 FS with short barrel (same size gun as my 9mm)

This would give me cash to purchase a 9mm shield. I guess or a .40 But I favor staying with 9mm as I have reloading setup for 9mm

So would I be happy with the Shield. This does give me a carry gun, but I mostly just enjoy the target practice and trying to improve my skills.

I wouldn't begin to tell you what to do, but I just purchased a "shield" in 9mm and it may be my new favorite for CC. I say may be because I've not yet got enough rounds through it to have confidence for carry purposes.

The Shield is a great little gun and you won't be sorry if you buy one. Why not keep all three? The 9mm FS would be for target shooting, the .45 for home defense and the Shield 9 for carry. If you want to keep only two guns, I'd say sell the .45 and reload the 9s to your heart's content.

I take a slightly different perspective on sales like this. What kind of relationship do you have with your son-in-law? Does he already have a gun?

A sale like this can go a long way to cementing relations. I say sell it. You can always buy another down the road.

You have a FS 4.25" 45 M&P and if you can and would like to start carrying, the Shield would be a big help in that area. You can still reload for the 9mm Shield and later get another FS9 if you want.

As great as the shield is, I wouldn't sell my full size just to get one. Keep the full size and save up for the shield, so you can have both. If anything, sell the .45, but you may regret that down the road.

Buy a Shield in .40 buy a 9mm conversion barrel and ur back to having another 9mm as well as a .40. It sounds like its a winner situation if u go that route.

I agree with Smitty. Get the Shield .40 and get a 9mm barrel. My S&W .40 Shield is my all time carry gun now. A great little pistol.

I vote to sell him the .45, and you keep the full size M&P 9, buy the Shield in 9, and you have two guns in the same size.

If thats the case, then once again why keep the original FS 9mm. IMO

No, you cannot.

The full size .40 can easily be converted to the .357SIG 9mm. But, the .45 is a gun to itself. None of the other barrels will fit.

All good points. Can't have all 3 right now. I have spent a lot on my new hobby in the last 60 days. So I have to chose to keep my two FS guns. Or sell FS 9mm and get shield. Going to look further about that 40 to 9mm barrel idea

The Shield .40 to 9mm works flawless, trust me i've been doing it for almost the past year and half, lol. Many other members have followed and they have done the same without issue.

IMO, the only problem u may run into is finding a Shield 9mm barrel for the conversion. Back when we first started this, we had a good supply of barrels. Now S&W has caught onto our little doings and they seem to be keeping the barrels in house. I'm not saying its impossible, but am saying it appears pretty hard to find.

I have been more pleased with my Shield than the full size, but I also prefer smaller guns. The Shield is my EDC and occasionally I carry the 9c or Glock 26, but find the Shield easy to carry, fun to shot, and just an all around nice gun.

My vote would go to the 9c. I haven't shot a Shield but I held one and for me the 9c fits my hand better.

Don't forget mags if you are doing barrel switches from 40 to 9 and some are saying they are hard to find. The 40 can go to 357Sig with only the barrel using the same mags but again...finding the barrel. I intended to use my 40c as a 357Sig but Smith told my there were no Sig barrels in sight from them. I ended up getting a good deal on the whole .357c so the problem went away!

I have really taken a shine to the .357c, it suits me.

OP it seems like the Shield is really on your mind, enough that you would start a thread. I say go ahead and get the Shield and let it be, if you start to miss your FS9 then their is always time to save and get another. I know it is just tough to get your mind off a new gun once you go down that road and it seems your already down that road.
