EXCELLENT...it's a plethora of useful information!

This is a great organization...I have learned so much here...it's a plethora of useful S&W information...very educational...great journals...Symposiums are unbelievable...great presentations, displays, some of the best food you can imagine...well worth the price of admission...you get ALL THIS for 16.5 cents a day...you can't go wrong on this one...and best of all I have made some very special friends here...you can too! Hope you join!

I joined both the Collector's Association years ago and the Historical Foundation as soon as it was formed by the Cheelys. All the benefits discussed here are useful but I had another reason to join as well.

It has been my experience that certain collectors (myself included) reach a point where it becomes less about finding and owning specific guns than it is about finding and understanding more about the history, the development, the contemporaneous users and the survival rate of specific guns. I'm jazzed to collect data, documentation and history, especially if it is unpublished. The S&WCA Journal is a great place to share this research. The gun magazines on the newsstands are superficial, especially when it comes to collectible guns. They are a mile wide and an inch deep. The S&WCA Journal gives me the opportunity to publish articles that go deep. I hope they are interesting and help advance the knowledge base about a specific gun or topic.

If you are passionate about sharing your specific expertise then the Journal, and the annual Symposium are great outlets to do so. I encourage all members to write. Even if you are intimidated about the idea there are folks who are anxious to help and you are helping all of us, including future collectors, when you do so.

I've filled out my application. I have some administrative issues due to being on a military deployment at the moment, but I'll overcome.

THANKS for your service. Where are you deployed?
Middle East.

Main issue is I didn’t bring my checkbook...

Hmmmmm.....
So, we have a guy in the sandbox covering us.
I got $20.
Who here wants to join me by sending $20 to me, and I'll mail the SWCA the check for $60 to get the man signed up?

Probably late to the party....... I’ll throw $20 towards his membership if needed. Let my know Mr Jarrett.

The Forum provided me many hours of “home” during my deployments. And.....I have received many items free of charge from forum members and SWCA members.

It’s been more than enjoyable being members of both!
Thanks everybody......
Bob

You can pay dues with PayPal.
The membership application is now updated to show the PayPal address. It is available as a Word document or a PDF.
Of course, you can always mail a check or money order.

I have been a member since 2012 I believe. The advantages of being a member far outweigh the nominal cost. That includes the SWHF.
Like Kwill1911 articulated so well, I enjoy learning and understanding the history of firearms as much as I do the collecting aspect. There are also advantages of meeting some collectors that will just blow your mind with their collections. They are not only great resources on the subject but on occasion, may even offer to sell you one or 2 from their personal collection which never gets posted on this board or auction sites. These are often guns that will also blow your mind. There is nothing secret about that.. it's just networking face to face which, IMO is far more meaningful than through a forum or email.
Finally, I really enjoy the ability to get a ship date from Roy Jinks if I want one that costs me nothing except my SWCA membership. The only other way I know to get that information is a $100 Letter of Authenticity. Do the math on that..:D

Aside from all the obvious reasons already posted, having access to Roy and the Ship Date request alone is worth the price of admission. Last year I was hot to buy a certain 44 3rd Model Target and requested a ship date from Roy. He let me know that the gun originally shipped as a 38 spl. , thereby saving me several thousands of dollars.

hkcavalier is now a member. He was able to use PayPal and sign up. I discovered that the SWCA application on the SWCA site (linked above) is not the latest version which offers the PayPal option for paying dues. That will be corrected shortly.
Again, send me a PM if you need the PayPal address to send it to till the form gets updated.
THANKS
to all of you who offered to help me pay his dues. There were others who sent me PMs offering to pay part or all. ;)

I wasn't sure what to expect when I attended my first symposium in Baton Rouge. However, I was certainly very pleasantly surprised from the minute that I met Janice at the Registration Desk. The good news - although the symposium ended, the camaraderie, sharing of information, and new friendships have never ended.

I'll take a bit of a different tact at this point. Back in my flying days in the Marine Corps, we always said, "If you're not having fun, you're not doing it right!!" I've attached the agenda from the 2019 symposium in Richardson, TX The Board of Directors and event planning team work hard to make the entire time at the symposium professionally rewarding and enjoyable. There's an excellent balance between scheduled meetings, presentations, etc. and your "free time".

As one example, the speakers are always engaging and share very interesting information with us. Last year one of our guest speakers was Texas Ranger Ralph Wadsworth (Retired). If I am correct, Ralph was a Texas DPS state trooper in November 1963 and drove one of the cars in the motorcade. He later became a Texas Ranger. His comments on his professional experiences and the entire presentation itself was very outstanding! I believe that it was later that day when several members drove down to Waco, TX to visit the Texas Ranger Museum.

As a "Bean Counter Extraordinaire", I have always been impressed with just how much is packed in to the symposium activities for just the $200.00 registration fee. The event planners also negotiate an excellent room rate, parking, and meal discounts for us.

The wives of the members are also "Go Getters" when it comes to having great symposium experiences. I never thought that I'd be making a lap around the race track at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, or learning that the best method for NASCAR Drivers to get to-from the race track is by helicopter??!! Who knew? Last year it was over to Fort Worth to the stockyards, lunch at Billy Bob's, and then watch a very (very) small cattle drive!

Seeking new S&WCA members has been an initiative that has been in the planning stages for several years. The "Big Gorilla" and the Moderators have been working hard for years to have this forum become an outstanding site that attracts and retains members who are truly interested in sharing their knowledge and experiences, and mentoring others who are newer and are on their way. I've been here since 2011 and I'm still a "Newbie"!

With virtually no exceptions, new members provide existing members with more knowledge about the firearms that we already have, or plan to buy in the future. New members share their solutions to problems, repairs, reloading (those who "Roll Their Own"), people in their network who can do the best work for repairs, engraving, etc.

If you have any questions whatsoever or if you are interested in becoming a member, send me a Private Message (PM) or e-mail. If I can't answer your questions, we have members who can!!

Bill

I've enjoyed the NE Ohio Bunching for the past several years. Other than the annual meeting are there any regional meetings???

The Southwest Bunch meets at the same time as the (really big) Wanenmacher Tulsa Arms Shows in April and November. There is (I believe) a Florida group and probably others.
