Thats crying for a weapon mount......

I sold my Harley and have a multi-use urban assault vehicle! I have had motorcycles since I was a kid. I raced motor cross and had street bikes since I had a DL. I have lost count of bikes that came and went. My Harley was getting limited use (bad weather here in Ohio) and sat around most of the time. I opted for an on/off road scooter or 2006 Honda 650L. A big one cylinder thumper 4-stroke.Not as cool as my Harley but a LOT of fun and it goes where I aim it.

Good choice. It is hard to find one bike that will give you more fun than a big single-cylinder dual-sport bike.

Change the oil, add gas and ride it like its stolen.
It really nails the type of riding I enjoy, all of it on and off road.
No fuel injection, water pump , radiator, computer or other **** to deal with. When I was a kid someone had a Honda SL70 / street legal enduro. That bike got ridden a lot over the years and always worked. It might not be cutting edge performance but it reliable and fun. I think the 650L places well at the Baha 1000 and that's a real torture test for equipment.

.....I like it!

My humble ride....

I don't have a garage full like some here but this one works pretty good for me.

Actually, the bike that did so well at Baja under Johnny Campbell and many other riders was the XR650R, water-cooled, kickstart-only, blazingly fast, not street legal, and only slightly related to the XR650L. For some incredible footage of the XR650R in action, see "Dust to Glory":

Great trailer and thanks for the link. I stand corrected and I am familiar with the 650R model. I know I don't want anything with a radiator but it's a runner for sure. The only bitch I have about my bike is its electric start only, no kicker. If I could steal one feature from the "R" model that would be it. I just put a new battery on board so hopefully I am good for a while.

Electric starters aren't too bad if you are halfway up a steep, loose slope and you kill the motor. Here's my KLR 650

I haven't ridden in 9 years. I don't know why, I just stopped. But I kept the bikes.

I just finished a 2 day MSF course, back in the saddle training for me, traded my 1975 Norton 850 Commando which was in need of a total restoration for parts and labor to get this one up and running again.

I should be back on the road within the week. It may be old (1988 CBR1000F) but it will still get up and move.

My latest addition. 2004 Suzuki DR 650SE. I'm getting back to my roots with this bike. My first two street legal bikes were Dual Sports, or as they were called back in the day...Enduro's 1980 Yamaha XT 500G and 1983 Honda XL 600R. Gotta love that electric start on these big bore singles.

Updated pic of the DR. I did a Supermoto conversion on it. This thing is a road magnet now and a blast and a half to ride the twisties.

I currently have two bikes in the stable:

2007 Harley Davidson Electra Glide Ultra Classic

I traded my 56 panhead for this. I realized after restoring the pan it really wasn't practical for trips and I couldn't afford two toys. 95 FLHTC

Congratulations, IMO Suzuki's DR650 is wonderful motorcycle! (one any riders interested in owning better pick up pretty soon.) It may be one of the last big bore, air cooled singles on the market. It has a simple air/oil cooled engine with screw and lock nut valve adjustment, is light, geared just right, is still manufactured in Japan.

My current ride is a 2009 BMW R1200RT that I bought new in October '09. I LOVE this bike!

This photo was taken along Rt. 55 in Hardy County, WV, one of my favorite spots in all the world. I used to live in eastern Hardy County and owned and ran a gun shop there for 6 years after my retirement from the NJSP.
