An update to my .455 snubby project. It's basically complete, I just wish that dang sideplate would patina faster. I may try spraying it with some vinegar and letting it sit in the garage for a little while. Also, fitting a side plate is a lot of work, but I think I did an okay job at it. Don't know who made the hammer, found it on eBay a couple years back, I had to work on it to make SA work, in doing so I had to reharden it. While I was at it I figured, hey, let's give this thing a fire blue finish! You can see what I did to myself. Word to the wise: don't drink and play gunsmith. Oh, and are those some super beat up Ropers? Why yes, yes they are. They came on an equally beat up $500 1917 I picked up last year.

Nice work on the side plate and fire blue on hammer.

The hammer wide spur just needs a little radius cut on the front corners to look more "Smithy":

28-2's in 45 Colt

These are my 28's converted to 45 Colt. The non-factory pinto is my deer gun and the pin gun is a Charlie Clemens custom.

Krebs Custom "CROWBAR" .45ACP 28-2

Pinnacle built .41mag 28-2 w/titanium cylinder

Another Pinnacle gun, 360J 9mm/.38spl convertible

The 1911A1 came to me with the blue job & Barstow barrel. Austin was known for the sight job. I did the rest. Relieving the underside of the grips on my Unimat to accept the sticky skateboard tape was an interesting project.

Lots of 'smiths were putting S&W K frame sights on 1911s in the '60s, '70s, and '80s - Behlert, Swenson, Hoag, and Capone are just a few of the bigger names.

Behlert did this one, it's one of his Bob-cat chopped Gov't Models (I shouldn't have sold it!)

This one is a King's Gun Works ("Al" Capone) 1948 Colt Commercial Gov't Model

I have had David Clements do some excellent work for me. He lives about 20 miles away from my house.

Mr. Clemens was a master pistolsmith with a shop in Chico, CA and was well known on the west coast for his competition revolvers. After the Dirty Harry movies came out and you couldn't trade your first born child for a 29 he started converting 28's to 44mag for less than MSRP on a new 29.

Love the modified guns. Below are my 27's in 44 and 45, the 1917 factory converted to 45 Colt, and the chopped 44 HE 3rd with target sights added. Seeking out the modified guns or thinking up fun projects seems to be a fun addiction.

Well, if a 1917 reamed to accept 45 Colt counts I guess I have another one to post.
1917 commercial - reamed for 45 Colt and bumper chromed over pitting. I have a period correct set of worn walnut service grips on it now so it looks a little better.
Still ugly as homemade soap, but it shoots just fine.

The chopped 3rd model 44 has an interesting hammer spur reshaping and a definite improvement for the pre war hammers.
