Show-N-Tell - The N Frames that You Shoot

Strumpet, I NEVER get tired of looking at your RM! To me it has class and character and I'd rather have it than all the others!

I'm very very fond of it myself. There are so many refinished RMs out there...but in good shootable state that look like this? At this point I feel like it would be criminal to re-finish it and will probably never sell it for fear that someone would re-finish it.

I rarely get out shooting, or I would probably put a lot more cartridges through it. I do need to find a set of really beat up ropers for it. As much as I like the look of the Magnas they are just too small for my hand. I can shoot it accurately but it's kind of uncomfortable and the gun shifts around in my hand too much. I guess I'm just spoiled by the other Ropers I do have.

I bought these from a great forum member here, but I need to get them to one of the wood wizards to make them more usable for me:

I'm thinking having the rest of the thumb rest removed (since it's already borked and too small to be useful). Probably add some wood to fill in the front strap a bit. I'm not certain, I'm so busy with work I haven't really talked to anyone about what might be done with them. It may seem strange, but every time I put stocks on this that are too nice, or too new, it's just...wrong.

I did manage to get out shooting a few weeks ago. It was spur of the moment so I just tossed this and another revolver in the bag and went out to the range with a couple friends of mine.

I put some .38s through it, just dinking around, and offered some .357 to shoot out of it to my friend. He was pretty excited to get to shoot an RM for the first time. He aims at something, shoots, and I hear a *thunk*. I found this a bit confusing and asked him what he was aiming at. He says; "That steel silhouette of a man hanging out there".

The one at 200yds. First shot. He then put 3 more of the remaining 5 shots on the plate.

I was annoyed at myself for never considering myself capable of shooting that far with the gun, but of course I had to try after that. I put 3 of the 6 on the plate the first time I tried. The misses actually seemed to be shooting over the plate.

The mechanical accuracy of that stupid gun is kind of absurd. The ease of shooting it was really telling after the three of us could reliably hit a man sized plate at 200 yards after a single box of ammo between us. It has re-kindled my desire to get some era appropriate target stocks that actually fit my hand.

Caleb:

Are you sure that those Ropers are for an N-Frame (BTW - I love the look on your RM)? They look a bit shallow in the back strap - more like they should be on a K-Frame?

It has been fun to watch the evolution of that RM as you found the correct parts and put it back together...:)

I think the correct way to put it is that they "were N frame", now they aren't exactly N frame, or K frame really.

I do fear that the answer regarding them is that they will never be N frame again and I need to find another beat up set of old Ropers for this gun.

It's funny, finding actually well used Ropers is REALLY hard to do. Ones that have some specific damage, or abuse are relatively common, but unabused while well worn? That's a trick. If anyone knows where a set may reside I would forever be in your debt.

I have had many N Frames over the last 40 years, mostly Hiway Patrolmen and M29's, but a 1917 as well...But I have only 2 N frames now, both .44 Specials. This is the new one...Model 21 - 4, about 2011...

This is the old one - have not fired this one yet, but soon...

.44 HE 2nd model, about 1931...5"

I took my factory original pre-27 with the special order 4 inch
barrel out to the range today. This revolver shipped from the
factory on April 22, 1957.

My target was set out to 7 yards, and I used Black Hills 158 gr.
CNL .357 Magnum Cowboy Loads. I was very pleased with
the way it shot. I think I'll keep it! :)

This cut down 5.5" Model 27(no dash) tuned by Nelson Ford and sporting some early cocobolo Kurac's makes it to the range with me most every time.

Why someone had it cut to 5.5" - I have not the slightest idea? But I do know that it is one that is regularly enjoyed by my sons and nephews.
