Show off your Custom Gun

Got a "tribute gun" being done to honor my maternal grandmother (Irish/Chickasaw/Cherokee). It is an "OM" Vaquero, with a 5.5 Colt 38-40 barrel and custom unfluted chamber. Bisley hammer and trigger with a "plow-handle" grip frame. Grips are big horn sheep by Patrick Grashorn.

Engraving includes "Trail of Tears" on the backstrap in Cherokee, a turtle (longevity), She-Who-Watches (for protection), an owl (for wisdom) and a bigorn (for success), all on the cylinder, all in rock-art style.

After this, I am having a 1936 Model 71 Deluxe (all original except for a recoil pad) restored to match.

Accessories include a big horn handled Bowie (By Bark River), a re-worked John Wayne rig from EPS, copper Native American conchos.

Make sure to post pics when finished!!

Gonna take another to Andy Horvath, have all the parts for a .32 PPC gun. Finally use the 6" PPC barrel, I bought on the forum a while ago. Gonna use a model 15 so no rib will be used, will use the adjustable sights on the gun and Andy will fabricate a front sight. Stay tuned, Larry

I'll add a couple recent acquisitions to keep the thread alive-

Pinnacle High Performance 9mm 360J - I posted this gun earlier in the thread but since that post I sent it back to Pinnacle and had Mark fit a titanium .38spl cylinder. Now it's a convertible, I can shoot/carry .38spl with the Ti cylinder or switch to the rechambered cylinder and shoot/carry 9mm, .38 Super, .38ACP, 9x21, 356TSW, 9mm Largo, 9x23 Winchester, etc., using moonclips.

Jebus, that is one fine looking revolver you have there! Just the way you wanted it too. I can appreciate the desire to have a custom firearm made just for you. Nothing like it!

Here's a few of mine to get this thread of yours going:

Custom Fitz'ed Colt Official Police .38 Special with engraving by Michael Gouse:

Ruger New Model Blackhawk .44 Special with birdseye maple handles, Gouse engraving, Turnbull case hardening, and Skeeter Skelton cattle brand on the backstrap:

The above Ruger matches up to my S&W 624 .44 Special engraved by Gouse as a Skeeter Skelton tribute with his cattle brand, Weigand Combat rear sight, gold bead front sight, and birdseye maple Skeeter Skelton handles by Deacon Deason of Bear Hug Grips (r.i.p.):

Marlin 1894 .44 Magnum with custom 16" barrel, John Wayne big loop lever, saddle ring, oiled walnut stock and forearm, engraved by Gouse and case hardened by Turnbull:

WOW! I just realized we all need a REALLY LIKE button! Very nice guns!!

A few years ago I blundered into a LGS about 15 miles from the house. I was looking for a Coke machine and some salted peanuts for a snack. About 20 minutes later I headed for the house. I no longer owned a G-22RTF... or a 100 rd. value pack of WW .40 S&W ammo. However, I was the new owner of a very pretty little 15-3... and a RIA 1911-A1. The RIA only had about 80% finish but it was otherwise in fine shape.

The 15-3 had a slight bit of corrosion on the barrel but was otherwise in excellent condition. The RIA I figured would be a good car gun. But, the more I shot it the more it grew on me. I figured one day I'd buff it and do a cold blue job. Very happily before I could launch out on that little experiment as nice gentleman from Black Ops Armoury contacted me and asked if I'd send the pistol down to them for a look/see. That was in December of 2007. In March of 2008 it was returned. They altered the hammer and grip safety to keep the skin of my hand from being cut during shooting, the consequence of my having been burned in a gas fire back in 8/98. They did an action job, trigger job, checkered the front strap, Ceracoated the pistol in black, tended to the throating so that it will now feed empty brass as well as any type of ammunition I've been able to find and installed adjustable sights. The also refinished the grips. The pistol went from a sows ear to the proverbial silk purse.

To top everything off, they did not include a bill. I contacted them about this oversight. The owner informed me that they figured I'd been a full-time service pastor for 30 years and that it was time someone did something for me. I was shocked. I still am. Today I had that RIA at the range with a Marvel 1911 .22 LR conversion on top. It runs like the Energizer Bunny, it just kept going and going!

Below please find two links. The first is to pictures of the pistol as well as pictures of how it shot using WW 230 gr. FMJ's firing a standard qualification course. The second link is to some pictures at the Black Ops Armoury.

I love U.S. and S&W Forum...it ROCKS!!

Whew glad that is over for today (NOT)...the webmaster said I ran out of LIKE buttons!

This has been a fantastic evening of entertaiment and a million thoughts for an old 19 snub that's in my sights...

That hard working ol' gal may be a diamond again someday cuz she ain't gonna' ever be original again...oh ya'll make the juices flow.

Thanks for starting and continuing this discussion folks!! WOW!

There should still be a lot of nice guns out there to put here for us to see. Oh yea, I found a Nanurhin MR 73 a while ago with a 4" bbl with at abt 85% blue. I was lucky to find a target model, not the sport model. It's at the gunsmith right now for a high gloss re-blue like it had originally, Python style. As we talked about the gun he mentioned the emblem and 'made in France' would wash out with polishing. There is an engraver close that will engrave the 2 places so it will look new. It's a very accurate gun using .38 spec. I'll post pics when done in abt 3 mos. Larry

What I think is a custom gun may not be the same as others. I can definitely see the "custom" with some of the ornate engraved revolvers. I shoot what I buy, so I don't have much incentive to make an object of art out of anything. The only gun I have that might fit in here is my Glock 22 Gen4.

  • Slide Cerakoted Burnt Bronze
  • Slide properly milled specifically for a Trijicon RMR.
  • Suppressor height night sights, for co-witness.
  • LWD extended, ported match barrel.
  • TLR-4 Light/Laser
  • Gen3 Trigger Bar assembly.
  • ZEV connector
  • Spring kit
  • Marine spring cups
  • +2 base plates
  • LWD extended, ported 40-9 conversion barrel.
  • Trigger polish.

My most "custom" gun is probably my ugliest. A Springfield Mil Spec I picked up (I'm the third owner that I know of). It became a guinea pig for my amateur smithing, yet somehow remains one of my best shooters.

Wilson Combat fire control parts (2 lb trigger), a homemade rat tail grip safety, recessed and recrowned barrel, flat checkered msh, terrible attempt at recessing slide stop pin, fitted bushing, Pachmayr signature rubber grips, and an extended thumb safety. Its ugly but it works for me. And it loves cheap ACT mags and a Milt Sparks SSII.

Strangely, I've owned many Springfields but this lowly example is the only one I've seen with the slide de-horned front and back.

I'm working on turning one of my S70 Colts into a Wild Bunch pistol. It had a few parts changed by a previous owner, including a set of Wilson sights. My contributions are a wide spur hammer, smooth msh with lanyard loop, small thumb safety, etc. Still have to modify the grip safety, find a long trigger, put some nice DD wood on it, and reshape the oversized Wilson front sight.

My goal is a pistol that looks like an early M1911 without the worry of beating up an original. Should be a reasonable facsimile when its done (except for the A1 frame reliefs).

Worked on the sight, grip safety, and put a different trigger and grips on it this morning. Needs a bit of work on the grip safety yet, the profile isn't quite right. And may need to take the front sight down more, will find out when I shoot it.

Fairly similar to where I'm heading with this late 60s model. It came to me with yuuuge adjustable sights.Functional, but ugly! I've gone with a retro rear and filed the front down a bit.Lots of light on either side for my fuzzy eyesight [emoji1]
The bottom gun is a 70 series repro I've swapped a few parts on

Back up to find some more custom guns. Been hearing about a lot of projects being done so let's see the results. I'll be on vacation next week and Andy Horvath will probably call and say my 2 guns are done. Finally get the .32 PPC gun and the 25-2 getting the barrel cut to 3 1/2" back from him. Been almost 4 months waiting. Larry

I'll throw in again.

This is a new Colt Commander that I had customized for my son to commemorate his accomplishments in the military, primarily earning his way into one of less than 100 SOF TACP slots in AFSOC and surviving (so far) three combat deployments to Afghanistan. There is a long story behind the gun but the short version is that the work was started by Robin Dietrich, the slide ruined by an engraver in TX, and the project was in turn saved by the Colt Custom Shop. It took a year and was finished this spring but I haven't been able to get down to Ft. Benning to present it to him yet, I'm hoping to fly down for his birthday in September. His grandfather had El Paso Saddlery make the Tanker shoulder holster for it.

My Series 70 Gold Cup that has been thoroughly worked over by a local area gunsmith. Kart Barrel, checkered front strap and mainspring housing, ejection port lowered and relieved, solid bushing fitted, beavertail grip safety. action tightened up and re-fit. It is a tack driver,

My Springfield Armory which started off as their G I plain model. I did most of the work myself. Frame tightened and fit, solid bushing, match barrel, beaver-tail grip safety, ambidextrous safety, ext mag release, slide top stippled, and had a friend install the Bomar sights. Front strap stippled, arched mainspring housing reground contour and stippled, front of trigger guard stippled, frame metaloy finish, beveled mag well. I did everything but the sight install and metaloy and bluing. A couple year project while using the gun for competition.
