629-3

I dropped in on the range today to try out the Pachmayr Gripper Professionals I recently acquired. Having small hands my M29 kept biting my trigger finger, now the blighter gives it to me where I guess it should...

I had installed the original stocks for pics but alas had to remove them to test the grippers and I had no intention of shooting it with the wooden stocks.

I like that rug, can you tell me details about it and where to find one alike?

Here is my pre 29, 5 inch, shooter .44 Magnum. It was back for work in 1963 and the barrel has a diamond stamp by the serial number (maybe cut or replaced by S&W who knows) and there is B diamond for refinish on the butt. Smith & Wesson should have made more 5 inchers.

and here is my early 629 with a pinned barrel and recessed cylinder serial number N 748677 with a little 32 Double Action

29 Classic with 5" barrel. The stocks are Hogue concalo alves. I'm not in love with them. They really don't fit too well on the back strap. I've been thinking of getting a pair of Cokes made. I think they would look nice on this gun. I don't see a whole lot of Classics with 5" barrels around these days.

The 629 has a 6 1/2" barrel. I thought about cleaning it off before I took it's picture to post but it gets shot so much it's really never clean so I figured I'd just leave it dirty. It gets shot more than any of my other hand guns except my competition guns. It is the most accurate large bore revolver I have ever owned and shoots well with just about any bullet from light lead to monster heavy jacketed bullets.

I have posted pictures of my .44's before, but what the heck, I'll put them up again:

29 no dash, likely shipped sometime in 1960 Serial # S200207. This is my favorite hiking gun, smooth as glass action and dead on accurate.

29-2 w/6 1/2" barrel, my "Dirty Harry" gun. Serial # N440319, still unfired after all these years. Not sure when it shipped, but probably in 1978 or so.

629-4 Classic DX. Made in 1995, I bought this on a whim and boy am I glad I did. This thing shoots like a rifle out to 100 yards and has become my favorite pig gun.
