Looking at all these photos of vintage M&Ps, makes me like this revolver even more. Until I find a decent career (Search is in progress as we speak), my entire collection of two S&W Revolvers will have to suffice LOL. Both are M&P Revolvers, but one of them is a Model 10-5 with 4" standard barrel...but I can't post a photo of it here because it is newer (1966-1967) made revolver, and has been posted already like 48 times LOL.

The other M&P revolver I have has also been posted to death here, but here it is once more.

I will now step back and admire all the other M&P Revolvers LOL.

unsure of model and year

Hi,I recently came accross what I believe is a late forties M&P 38spl.It is blue with 6" barrel,6 shot,there are 4 screws holding side plate.Can anyone help me identify?

This is my first S&W. I was looking for a Victory model in .38 Special, but could not pass this one up!

dcl548; a serial number will help. Leave out the last two or three numerals if you like. Be sure to give us any letter prefix that appears with the serial number.

East Texas; that's an oldie M&P. Do you know when it was manufactured?

I don't have the S&W book so I haven't confirmed it. I was told '08 or '09 the serial is 14753x. If someone can narrow that down I would appreciate it. The tag says Model of 1902, but the owner was not sure of the exact year.
The guy was asking $350 but I traded it even for a Romanian SKS that I bought a few years ago for $150. The deal was too good to pass up. Besides I have been to several gunshows in the greater Austin area and have seen no Victorys in .38 Special until Sunday. There was one there (Victory) and it was $300, BUT the lanyard was gone, the US Property on the top strap was gone and the original grips were replaced by some ugly plastic orange stained fake stags. The comparision wasn't even close!

Hey East Texas; The "3rd change" is said to begin in 1909 at 146900 so 1909 is a good guess.

dcl548; Your gun could have been made in 1927 with that serial number.

Factory letters are desirable for determining shipping dates. Even watching the Forum for "factory letter" posts featuring revolvers with similar serial numbers won't truly establish your revolver's age. Smith & Wesson often shipped revolvers out of serial number sequence.
