Thanks for this post, Lee.
I have been an NRA member since 1979, when I bought my first gun.
Eventually I became a life member, and I have been fortunate to be able to become a Benefactor member over the years.
All it takes is a yearly membership to start out with.
It is only $25.00. We piss away more than that on stupid stuff.
If you think you can't afford to join, think again.
You can't afford not to.

Show my colors? You damn right: NRA member for 40 years. I choose to be an annual member because I send more money that way, rather than becoming a Life Member.
Well, I did upgrade to "Life" after a few years. Then every few years more they'd send me an offer to upgrade at a discount, and I'd figure,"OK, I've saved enough on annual membership fees to put down another big chunk of money."
The NRA is still coming out ahead on me with the membership level upgrades, and both the NRA and NRA-ILA get additional donations each year from me anyway. I feel I'm getting much more "bang for the buck" putting my money here rather supporting any particular party, candidate, or cause.

I joined the NRA online on Jan 1, 2013. Got my membership packet about 5 weeks later. I'm still waiting on the NRA "shooters cap" that was advertised. The caps must be on backorder, like everything else these days.

found 5 local hunters that I know that are not NRA members & gave them memberships ...that way I know the money was well spent

If you are an NRA member, please show the NRA icon!
To select the icons:
See pics at bottom of page if needed.
You must be logged in.
Click on your User Name at top right (first pic)
Then look down the list to "NRA Membership" and click that tiny yellow tab (second pic)
Click the appropriate level and click "Save Changes" (third pic)
While you're there, select other icons that apply to you like Vets and First Responders.
Please do not select SWCA and SWHF icons if you are NOT a registered member.
If you are not an NRA member, please consider joining.

We are in the toughest fight of all time to protect the 2nd. They are coming after ALL guns eventually, so don't think for a minute that you are OK because you don't like black rifles or 30 rd mags. If ALL of the ARs and AKs and 30re mags disappeared tomorrow, "they" would start on the next level.
Your deer rifle would be labeled a "deadly, high-powered sniper rifle".
Your bird gun will become a "deadly 'automatic' shotgun that can be sawed off in 5 minutes and spray hundreds of horrific buck shot".
"They" will want revolvers because a sack of speedloaders could make them WMDs.
