Theoretically if you had to similar model revolvers and wanted to swap side plates would they fit? Maybe a better way to ask this is each side plate hand fitted? I have never tried but am curios to here your experiences. Thank you.

I still have the stainless K Frame sideplate that I took off of a 686.
As I posted before, no it didn't fit.
What surprised me was the hammer pivots lined up.
The gun would cycle.
No I didn't shoot it!
Big question is - where's the original sideplate?
Is it on a K frame?
Well no, probably not. The L sideplate is bigger than the K.
The gun is long gone, fitted by Smith with a new sideplate.

Yes K frame plates were fit. If you have an old Mod-10, go buy a plate that has not been buffed or re-finished and play. No hammers, only big old thumbs. Dont touch the frame and no real pressure. That number on the inside of the plate and the yoke, serve a purpose. Remember the gun was buffed later down the line to match the frame. Just be sensible about it. Best
