Sig P-365, P-320 Compact

I don't know if anyone has access to both of these guns but if you do would you please tell me if racking the 365 is harder than the 320 Compact.
I can rack the 320 Compact but I would not want anything harder. For the record, I know the proper procedure. My 95 year old arms are just not what they once were.

Thank you for your info. I guess that when I can find one locally and actually try it I will know for sure. Even the 320 Compact is a little bulky but the main problem with it is that I am not comfortable with no safety. If I carry it there will be no load in the chamber and that is not good.

I own a P365 and have no problems racking it. I have shot a friends P-320 and have actually found it slightly harder. That said, could have also been that when we were at the Range it was extremely hot and my hands were sweaty when I shot the P320. Bottom line is that racking strength required didn't even enter my mind so I don't think there is a major difference.

If you are considering one or the other - I'd find and handle them so that you can try out both at a LGS or from friends who own them.

There isn't much difference other than slide width between the two. The slightly wider slide of the 320 may help you in terms of racking but in terms of resistance they are close to the same in my experience.

First, thank you for your service!

Now, to the question at hand. Last November while at the Sig Academy for the Adaptive Defensive Shooting Summit, I haunted the Sig Pro Shop with the intention of purchasing a Sig with the generous discount extended to the participants. I handled the: P365, P320 Xcompact, and the SP2022. Of the three, none stood out as requiring an unusual degree of effort to rack the slide.

If you're apprehensive about carrying either Sig with a round chambered because of the issues with "spontaneous discharges", I can appreciate where you are coming from. I have been researching this issue, since I won a P320 Xcompact at the ADSS, and I share your concern. From what I have found, is that this issue has not been seen in any of the X series P320s or in the P365s.

Sir, while the ADSS addressed one-handed manipulation of our handguns both in preparation for the stages and in making the arms safe at the conclusion of the match, we never addressed chambering a round when the clock started the stage! Respectfully, if you are concerned with an unintended discharge with either of these handguns, might I suggest carrying a smaller 1911 pattern pistol in condition one or a revolver?

Ancient One, if you'd rather have the P320 Compact with a safety there's always the P320-M18, which is the P320 military version with a safety.

There are none locally that I could find. For those looking for a P365 the only one that I could find on the web was at Interstate Arms or Firearms, I don't remember which. It was one without the safety. $499.95

Yes, I am the guy. I am not as active with firearms as I would like. or actually anything else. Time will do a number on you but I am very fortunate. Still live alone and take care of myself.

Understood. Still, it's an honor to have you here and to get a chance to read your perspective.
That said, I've had an opportunity to look over a 365. I have arthritis in my fingers and an artificial shoulder, so I have difficulty myself with racking the slide on many semi-autos. The 365 was what I'd consider comparable to my 3rd Generation S&W 3913s. Do-able, but not something I'd like to do more than a couple times in a range session. Using a sort of "reverse" method, like holding the slide steady and pushing the frame instead, seems to be the better method for me, at least. I hope this is of use to you.

I own a 320 and have shot both the 320 Compact (SC, Xcompact and FS). I did not note a difference in the difficulty in racking them. But, I highly recommend you find one to try.

I never thought about it before but I guess it's possible to own a semi auto handgun and never rack the slide again after the first time a round is chambered. Slide locks open after the last shot, insert a mag and hit the release button and your ready to shoot again and many modern, quality guns can go thousands of rounds without a jam or a cleaning.

I really like my Sig striker fired pistols, but if I were in your shoes, I'd opt for a S&W 9 Shield EZ. My buddy is in your situation and the EZ solved his issues.

I own both. No discernible difference for my arthritis hands.
The Shield 9EZ made a big difference.

I work at a shop and sell a ton of the S&W EZ in both 380 and 9mm. I highly recommend this gun for you. They call it the EZ for a reason.
