I have a SIG P224 with the "extreme" finish. I might start carrying the gun AIWB. Here in S.C. that means a sweaty gun. My question is how much does sweat affect these guns? On my M649, I just wipe it off and I am good to go.

I have asked this question on the SIG forum without result.

The nitron finish should hold up pretty well. As good, or better, than anything else out there.

I lived in Florida when I was big into Sigs. Back then the finish rusted straight through easily and wore off pretty quick as well. Their optional "K-kote" worked until it flaked off in big chunks, and looked terrible as well.

These days, with the stainless slides and even the steel slides being nitron coated, you really shouldn't have much of a problem. That's some pretty good stuff.

I wouldn't keep in in a holster overnight, or leave it in the trunk of a car for a couple days, etc. Taking it out of the holster daily will allow you to give it the once over. Let it breathe and you should be fine. Don't neglect the internals. They are no where near as exposed as the outside, but humidity can get anywhere as you know.

If you have problems, and old cop trick is to use car wax on it. Car wax on a gun works the same as it does on a car. It just gives the environment something else it has to get through before attacking the finish, and the metal underneath. I wouldn't really expect much problems with the nitron finish though.

Should be fine but each person has different PH and one guy can rust a gun in minutes while another can sweat on it everyday without a problem

What kind of holster are you using for AIWB? Your holster may contribute to moisture coming into contact with your gun. I have known people that carry AIWB and they will cut up an old computer mousepad and use that as a liner to keep the holster out of direct contact with their body. A couple of these may do the trick. Otherwise Nitron is a great coating but every night I would wipe it down with a silicone rag.

I have two IWB holsters for this gun. One is a Lobo horsehide off set clip . The other is a Garrett Silent Thunder. Both of these are nice but it is usually the Lobo holding the pistol. With either, the magazine release and grip screws get soaked in sweat if it warm out which is most of the time.

This is an expensive gun but I intend to start carrying it whenever possible. Events as of late have convinced me that the M 649 may not be enough. The SIG is DAK so behaves much like a revolver which is what I am most familiar with. It is about the same size as a Colt Detective Special but has great sights, trigger and holds a lot more ammo.

I think I will take it out of the holster and wipe it down each evening.
