Sig P226...doing research...have questions.

In my opinion, the grip circumference is close to the same as a 3rd gen S&W. If you shoot a 5906 well, the P226 should be a natural.

The CZ will have better ergos, as it is molded after one of the most ergonomically correct hand guns ever, the BHP.

If it were my investment, I would look for a clean used W. German made version. I think the older quality control was better than the current production version. (Just an opinion).

As an alternative for smaller paws, you might try the P225, which I believe is the very best iteration of the Sig line-up, only slightly behind the legendary P210.

Sig 226

I was issued a sig 228 9mm in 1995 and then later was issued a 229 in 357 sig....I also have a 226, a 245 and a couple of 220's.....the 226 and it's siblings are great guns, I have been thru their armorer's school and instructed the sig for years as an LE instructor....the fact that the Sig 226 is pretty much the "gold standard" in the special operations community speak volumes for the pistol. They are among "best of breed" in my book for DA/SA platforms.

Oops, we're talking about SIGs....sorry;)
My associates who carry 226 swear by 'em. I didn't convert from the ceska.

The newer Sigs manufactured in the USA are having a LOT of quality control problems.

I kept reading this in various places, so I joined the Sig forum, to find out for myself.

There are a LOT of people sending brand new Sigs back for repair. You can't read more than a page or two of posts, without somebody describing how their new $1200 Sig doesn't work properly, and the other people on the forum tell them to send it back to the factory, to fix something that should have never left the factory.

Just my current research. You can read the forum without joining, but I like to ask questions.

YMMV, and all that.

I own several Sigs (W German 226, the new M11-A1 which is basically a 228, a 229 in 357/40, a 220 and a 220 Compact). New or old I have had no reliability or QC issues. I think the quality is outstanding and they are my favorite DA/SA semiautos.

If for some reason the Sig doesn't do it for you, I would also recommend a hard look at the FN semiautos. The FNs aren't as handsome or as "legendary" as Sigs, but they have great features, function great, and IMO may be the best value for the dollar of the newer semiautos.

Good luck, take your time choosing, and get what YOU like!

I'm also considering a p226 but I'm a little unclear on their models and terminology.

What are my options for a basic model "without" rails? It seems that most I see available have a rail.

Have heard of some issues as well, but not from mine :). Then you get into the German made . . . east or west (ha)? Always something. But they do have warranty's.

Everyones answers seem right on, I love my Sig(s) If you are not a prolific buyer and hold onto your guns for a long time, perhaps you should look at the 220 line especially the elite series. I know you asked about the 226, I just want you to not see everything. Good luck.
