I decided just for kicks to play with my Sigma 40, so I opened it up and removed the pigtail spring and the outer sear spring (I think that's what it is). What a difference! It doesn't feel much heavier than my M&P40 trigger now. I put just a tiny bit of Militec grease where the piece that goes down slides against the little ramp (I know...such technical terms :D ) and it's as smooth as glass now.

+1 on the pigtail spring removal.
Left my outer sear spring in place,-1, but I did polish the sear.
Used dry graphite on the assembly. Shoots great! :)

There have been a lot of problems with removing the outer spring when shooting self defense ammo. Fine for the range but as a carry weapon I would not trust it. I have probably 1000 flawless rounds, both FMJ and JHP without the pigtail spring. Pull is about 8 lbs, still long and very smooth after some sear polishing. I bought one for my wife a few months ago and her trigger is pretty good out of the box.

If its a range only toy, then enjoy. Otherwise i would put the outer sear spring back in. Good luck getting that pigtail one back in though, i never could.

Guess you guys have better engineering skills than the guys at S&W! Many failures have been reported by tampering with those springs...plus the fact that it probably voids the warranty on the gun.

I certainly don't claim to be an engineer, but enough people have tried this that I thought I'd give it a go. So far the results speak for themselves. I haven't seen any ill effects, it shoots better, no feed issues, it's functioned perfectly. I shot it some more today and it is 100% improved over how I got it. The beauty of the whole thing is that it's entirely reversable.

I want to try it but im affraid that it wont go bang when I need it too. After all it is my all day carry gun. I also am considering the wolf aftermarket springs instead of just removing parts

If your going to carry it, leave it alone. The Wolff springs were known to cause light strikes as well.

Mine has three springs. When you guys describe a pig tail spring, are you referring to the coil spring, or to one of the two springs that are nested together?

Out West

The pigtail is the lone spring down by the pivot pin.

In the pic. Pigtail spring is GREEN. Double coil springs RED

OK...

So just for kicks I tried it.

The pigtail spring is out of my 9VE.

The only difference I can feel (dry firing) is that the moment before the break is cleaner. That last little bit of resistance is gone.

The break feels...Crisp.

I like it...:D

Friday I will go burn some rounds and see if there are any ill effects. If there are then back in will go that little spring. If not, it will stay in the penalty box and I will keep on dropping rounds.

I'll start a new thread with results.

:D

edit to add. It does feel lighter. Just a bit but yes for sure. Lighter.

I took the pigtail out last month on a 40VE and ran 150+ rounds through it in about 2 hours, no FTF.

I'm still a bad shot, however. :)
