I need an explanation of the codes.
The difference between the 9ve, 9gve,
and the special forces ones?
The smith website explains nothing in detail really on the tech specs.
I have the 9ve but was thinking of getting the special forces just because of the melonite.
Is that the only difference is the melonite?
How is the Smith Melonite finishes compared to the Tennifer?
Why do some come with 10 round mags and some with 16 round mags? What does the "G" designate.
Kinda confused as usual with Smith, can they EVER make anything simple?

I'm certain people with more knowlege will come along with more answers, but, til' then, let me try a couple of them.

The 10 round mags are Brady Bill mags, when magazines were limited to 10 rounds. The Sigmas originaly had the hi-cap mags, but the Brady Bill forced new limitations. When the Brady Bill expired, the 16 round mags became available once more.

And something I didn't know until I read it on other threads here, is that the "G" stands for "Green"...

There are only two basic current models:
SW9VE
SW40VE

The magazine capacity is purely determined by which magazine you stick into it.

All the rest is just finish variations on the same parts. Would you like chrome, black, or green?

So the Special forces model only has a different finish? No special sights, lighter trigger, ect?

There is no "Special Forces " model Sigma.

The is an "Allied Forces" model Sigma which has the black slide. You want better trigger, sights, look at the M&P.

ok thanks, special forces, allied forces, all kind of silly names, I just wanted to make sure it had no other improvements except the melonite over the regular 9VE.
might be worth the extra $30 bucks to get it.
I don't want an M&P, quite happy with the Sigma line.

Original SIGMA was 40F, and it had the melonite treatment on the stainless slide.

Updated SIGMA was 40E (Enhanced, still had the melonite treatment on the stainless slide).

When the price cutting took place, they stopped the melonite treatment on the stainless slide, leaving it with the standard S&W satin stainless look, creating the Value Series, Enhanced, 40VE.

Finally, when the SIGMA was purchased in huge numbers by the US Army Tank and Armaments Command for issuing to Afghan Police and Border Patrol, that model was made available to the public as the Allied Forces Model, and it is the same as the VE, except that the stainless slide once again has the melonite treatment.

Same model numbers for 9mm.

The one with the G has an OD (Olive Drab - green) frame.
