Sigma Failed Yesterday

S&W has a lifetime warranty, original owner or not. I had a friend send in a WELL used police trade in and it was serviced and returned no charge.

Just had same problem - 9VE extractor broke. Total 7 days turnaround, from initial phone call where they mailed me a FedEx label, to gun in hand.

3X + for their exemplary customer service!

Blastfact, based on the information available from Numrich the extractor you purchased is not the factory origional but is to correct a condition of insufficient tension on the brass. The following is copied from the Numrich site as regards the extractor (I presume) is the one you purchased "SW9VE -S&W Sigma SW9 9mm Open Repair Extractor SMITH & WESSON SW9 SERIES Original blued-steel extractor designed as a repair part for pistols that fail the factory open flag gage test. Failure of this test is due to a worn-out extractor, which does not extract properly and/or causes periodic jams. This repair extractor termed "open" is actually tighter than a standard extractor and eliminates these types of malfunctions."

It appeared that the origional extractor is sold out.

No Lifetime Warranty

There is a lot of confusion on the warranty on S&W pistols. Maybe I can help... this is how it was explained to me...

The stated "warranty" on S&W guns is 1 year parts and labor et. al. Their repair policy is to fix the guns for life...

The reason for the different language is the "warranty" has a specific legal meaning. If they give you a lifetime warranty they have a liability to provide it for your life... a repair policy can be changed at any time.

I have had guns made as long ago as 1988 repaired at no cost... they won't however usually repair a really old gun at no cost... and rightly so...

Anyway, that is how it was explained to me...

FWIW

WOW!!!!

I don't know what i said wrong to Mr. Frank Smith today. Thinking he was a nice man and could offer some insight into my Sigma extractor. Maybe what to look for in the future and heck I wanted to ask him if he know of anybody including him self that might make a tool steel version of the extractor. I couldn't get anything out. And he jumped right down my throat. Just flat out insulted me over and over and over. I was nothing but polite and very respectful to this man.

I'm still stunned over this.

maybe he was frustrated that instead of being in the back fixing 10 broken extractors from other sigma owners waiting to get theirs back in the field, he was talking to you while you yourself was fixing extractors ;)..... just my take. Personally I would wrather have Mr. Smith in the back fixing sigmas to get them out in the field. Not to mention the tremendous work load I can only imagine that comes with being a "lifetime" warrenty repair center for a company that probably will sell hundreds if not thousands of gun per week. I respect the fact that you can do the work yourself and wish to make the part better, but i dont think that is what Mr. Smith is here for. For every 1 guy wanting to shoot the proverbial shat, he prob get many on his back for repair turn around. I am not any one special just a guy, but thats my objective opinion, so take it with a grain, then again he might have just had a bad day with 29 people on hold wanting to talk to him about the crappy engineering that comes from a company(SW) that pays his kids college tuition. I can just say that you live and learn and probably wont be calling him back any time soon. Either way Mr. Anderson..cheers

The lifetime warrenty is one of the great features of the sigma.

I for one have never had a problem with anything needing repairing thru S&W. But I do wish to ask a question, you are aware that under the law this term that everyone seems to think means just what it says is sadly a misquote! Life time means a total of seven (7) years. I would find this out the hard way and every time I see that little detail I chuckle to myself and ask if the life time is up yet before I call!!!!!!!! Now do not take this wrong, I am in no way saying S&W's Life Time Warranty is any less than they say, but after walking this earth f/54 years, nothing but death is absolute!:eek:RH
