I've removed the pigtail spring and replaced the outer spring with a lighter one from a pen. I'd read some had issues with inner spring bulging to the side if unsupported by an outer, some had no issues. I did the pen spring just in case, doesn't add much pressure anyway. Changes I did are reversible if needed.
Did not replace the striker spring with a lighter one, didn't want to risk light strikes.
Spring work + polishing sear, stirrup, striker contact points made trigger feel much better. I've only shot fmj thru it since mods, but have Speer Gold Dots on the way, will hopefully shoot some next week.

Not recommended for a pistol used for defense. Anything more than judicious polishing impacts reliability, especially with hot defense ammo.

I guess I can just put it back like it was if, problems arise and polish instead. Thanks! I did my mods the way you did using the pen spring. i shot one 13 round mag. through it and had one fail to feed and had to retract the slide and release to feed it. removing the pig tail spring wouldn't cause that would it? This was the very first time I shot this gun so, I guess it could have been me. I think I will polish the feed ramp just in case.
If the round got stuck trying to feed into the chamber, polishing the ramp will help prevent that. My P-3AT out of the box was really bad about having rounds get stuck on the feed ramp. Polishing ramp took care of it. Didn't have that problem with my Sigma, just did it as a precaution.
I'm good with US made FMJ since the trigger rework, shoots great. Hope the GDs do just as well.

Yeah, I did some trading with my son in law for this pistol he just bought from a pawn shop used. and the ramp looks a little dull so maybe polishing might cure it. of course like I say, it could have just been me as I'm new to handguns but, might as well polish it. Thanks!

I'm curious just like the op if anyone has any experience with any ill effects resulting from this mod. While I respect the warnings about modifying a hd weapon, I'm not so interested in doomsday as much as experience.
I've posted my experience several times, but it gets ignored and more posts like yours show up.
It is very simple to duplicate, just take out the two "extra" springs and shoot a couple boxes of +P+. Count the malfunctions.
Then put the springs back and try it again.
As I said many times, people use the modified guns for IDPA legally, with moderate range ammunition, and don't have many problems. Besides, the failure mode is just that the gun does not fire, so you just tap, rack, bang and go on. No problem when nobody is shooting back.
I've used Sigmas for trainers and loaners for many years, and have tried everything that's been advocated in the various "I've found the answer posts."
I stick to my statement that anything other than polishing impacts reliability, especially if you expect the gun to shoot with all available ammo under all conditions and circumstances.
I don't shoot +P+ in any gun where the manufacturer advises against it, however I ran several thousand rounds through my modified SW9VE and never had a single malfunction. Mostly FMJ, but also a solid amount of JHP and +P JHP. Both springs removed and no malfunctions. My brother-in-law (the current owner) has an additional 500+ rounds through it and it is still running without failure. I am not disputing OKFC05's experience, just sharing mine.

When i was testing various spring modifications on my old VE i had quite a few light strikes and some failures of the striker to reset with standard pressure ammunition.
If the pistol is going to be used for anything other than range only, i would strongly advise running the stock spring setup.

Thanks for that input. Ive read from more than one source that the current spring setup was influenced by +p "hot" ammo. Since my .40 doesn't need hot ammo, I have no intention of using any. So, I was really looking to justify spring(s) if I could commit to no hot ammo. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

I just removed the infamous pigtail from my 40VE AF not ten minutes ago. I figured I would start here and move forward if needed. I'm already very impressed with the new and improved trigger; for my purposes I see no need for any other modifications. Now I just need to get it to the range.
