Someone offered me a (German) P228 for my (German) P226. They're both in the same condition.

I don't shoot the P226 much, and I never thought of trading it, but I'm curious. Would you do this trade? The P228 is worth more.

I have heard that the P228 carries better but I have never "carried" the P226 anywhere other than my glove compartment.

The 228 does carry better but its not a huge amount, they simply aren't all that much smaller. The other side of the coin is the 226 is probably the easier gun to shoot well for most people.
Depends on what you want out of a carry gun of course. If you want tiny then you're barking up the wrong tree with Sigs anyway.
I wouldn't be super excited about the trade but I doubt if it would be a bad trade from a financial point of view.

I have a 229, same size as the 228, and I really like it. The size seems just right for me and I shoot it well.

I like both models but agree with Moondawg. If one or the other, I would take the P228. The 228 actually is a bit handier than the 226 or 229. 9x19 229s are heavier.

On the other hand, if you have to liquidate a bunch of mags and replace them with 228 mags, I would check into the cost of that before I made up my mind. If the gun is going to serve glovebox duty only, it would not make much difference to me.

226 mags work in the 228. they just stick out the bottom a little. would be ok for use as reloads where by then it wouldn't make any difference.
