I spil perfectly. Its my fat finners tiping thats the problem.
Sometimes spellcheck doesn't work because the misspelled word is actually a real word with different meaning.

My daughter teaches high school in DeLand, Fl and she said you would be amazed at the number of students who cannot tell time with an analog clock.

When cut in the sawmill it is 2 x 4. The smaller size results after it is planed to be a smooth stud.
I worked in Europe for awhile where it was all metric. They use twobafores in construction, but the actual dimension is not a conversion of 2" or 4" to metric. Just like we use even inch numbers, they use even MM numbers.
As an example a 4' wide sheet of plywood in a metric country is actually 47 inches and change wide.
I forget all the differences, but I guess you get the idea.
Fractions, most kids can't make change for a dollar. There is a vocational school in my county. It use to be kids were college prep or general. The area schools did away with general and forced kids into vocational school. I had a neighbor kid who ended up in Machine Trades. Parents were required to buy basic machinist tools. When kid graduated he ask me if I wanted to buy his tool box. Calipers, mics, ect. This is when I found out the kids were never taught to read instruments. They were using them for no & go gauges. Kids from carpentry classes could read a tape let alone lay out rafters or stair jacks. Reading an old type transit with vernier scale would be like brain surgery to these kids. Not their fault, the so called teachers are not capable of teaching anything they can't read out of book. They are graduating kids that can't read & write. They can't fill out an application without help. It's a crime.

I retired, and my oldest son is a graduate engineer. I'm jus going to leave this measuring stuff to him.
Well a nautical mile is 2025 yards. And a knot of speed in water is 1.15 MPH....

I have drill size, tap-drill sizes, fractions, decimals and who knows what else. I like the full size ones because they are easier on my ole eyes.
What is the smallest threads you ever chased?
The smallest hole I ever drilled is .007 inch. When I could see, I loved to machine small items on the jewelers lathe.

I can't believe how many people can't make change, unless the point of sale system tells them how much it is. So I went to Arby's last night, it's fish sandwich time of year, and got 2 fish for $6, a med curly fry, and a small lemonade, which IMHO is pitifully weak on lemon. Total was $10.48. The MANAGER takes my money, a $20 bill, and gives me $5.22 back instead of the $9.52 I should have gotten back. I say, "I gave you a 20, and you owe me like 4 dollars and 30 cents more!". She looked at me like I was crazy, "Are you sure?". She tells me the point of sale system died just after I ordered and it didn't tell her how much the change was supposed to be, so she "guessed". How she could make it into her mid 30's and not be able to make change is beyond me. I argued with her and finally got the money, but she wasn't happy about it. I can guarantee she wasn't playing dumb. I normally avoid that store because 99% of the time, they mess up my orders of plain fish sandwiches, or French Dips with no cheese on them and with no dip (too salty for me), and they will come with tartar and lettuce(why lettuce?And don't get me started on tartar!), and cheese on the Dips. Both make them garbage to me. When my dogs were alive, I would just go through the drive through and order again and let them have stuff with gunk on them, but now I go back and trade the bad stuff for good. They got it right last night!

Last time I went to the store for some London Broil to be cut up for Jerky
I asked that it be 3/8" in thickness.
The person that was doing the slicing that day (new) asked me, how thick that was?
I told them that it was just a little thicker than the sliced Bacon that they had in their display case.

I worked for a short time in NSW, were they used 25 meter Stanley tapes. The little black lines were so close together, I could not see between them even at thirty years old. their sheet of ply wood was 600x1200mm, slightly smaller than 4x8 feet rendering material handling less efficient.

Of course you can always use round numbers to the nearest whole number. Come to think of it, I've never seen part of a number, just whole ones.

I've been helping a neighbor do some remodeling.
The neighbor is 38ish and can't read a tape measure. Well educated and a highly payed successful/professional logistics/aircraft parts manager.
Simple fractions is mystery for this person. I just took it that reading a tape measure was something everyone knew.

To teach fractions start with money. Most people can grasp that it takes 4 quarters to make $1. The the idea of 1/2 a quarter being an 1/8 and 8 of those to make a whole is just a small jump.
My nephew could not read a tape or do fractions. After using quarters and some coaching he was able to cut me pieces of sheetrock, then later oak flooring to an 1/8" and that was good enough
