I stopped in one of my favorite pawn shops today. They have a super nice 686-4, 6". Shot very little. Locked up tight. They wanted $799.00 for it. Just the gun, no box or anything. I asked what is so special about the gun the shop owner said guns are going sky high.

Now I know things are a little crazy around here but not that much! Have any of you heard of such rediculas prices?

You know, a fwe of the gun places around here are doing the same thing, but it's nothing new, they seem to always have some outrageous prices for things. In fact, most of the time they want close to MSRP for any gun, so I now order online and have it shipped to the gun range I shoot at since they are an FFL. I saved about $250 when I bought my 686 new recently. I would love to support the local gun stores as some of them are owned by nice people, but I just don't understand why they have to have the price so high. I can understand the prices being a little higher, but they usually don't even come close! I wonder when ammo is going to be going up even more. Most of the places around here have been sold out of 38 special ammo, or they sell out as soon as they get some.

Your 686. Unfortunatly the price of all gun have gone up. Hand gun prices have got crazy. The 686s along with many other name brands such as, Colt - Ruger are going for unheard of prices. Ive even noticed that the shorter barreled guns, are going for more than there longer counter parts. I guess its all about supply and demand, as they say.

I think if it were here in SE PA. It would sit till it slowly rusted... They guy raised his prices so he would not run out of guns since he cant get many right now from dealers.
I picked this 686 no dash in very nice condition for 300 OTD about 2 months ago.

Someone else here also picked up a real nice one for the same $.

yep...that price is nuts...at least around here

i purchased a snub 686 new about a year ago for $505.00...a 686 no dash 4" (police trade in)around the same time for $225.00 and two months ago a 686-4 6" beautiful combat grips for $375.00
great guns...but i would shop for a better price

This is what pawn shops normally do. They are trolling for suckers. If you want the gun, offer what you think it is worth to you. If they turn you down, walk away from it. Simple as that.

You all are lucky. Around here in southwestern Indiana, you don't see a 686 in good condition for less than $550 to $600. Maybe it's because you can legally hunt deer with them so the price stays a little higher (?) I don't know for sure.
$799 is still a little high even for us though.

A pawn shop here has a 6 inch Nickel 586 and it's been shot a lot but has tight lockup and they want $500 for it.

I'm definately not a buyer on this one. There is a 7 shot 686 in another pwan shop for $525 and I'm not jumping on it either.

Incidently, the shop that has the 686 for $799 is the same shop I bought the Reg. Mag from for $329!

Nice grab on that 686. 800.00 for a used 686 is highway robbery.

This past November I bought a new 686+ with a 4 inch barrel for just under $700. That's taxes and all. I'm sure they went up some since then, but not that much.

That's stiff. I see you're in Montana, and am aware that the Sportsman here in Kalispell has the 686 SSR, brand new, for $719. I'd think a used 686, even in great shape but without box or papers, might be worth around $500

Please. There is a shop in NJ charging $1025 for a new 686SSR!!!!!!!!

It has been in the case for a few weeks.

I just bought a 686-6, 4" in New Jersey. After a few weeks of waiting around for one to come in, I gladly paid $700 for it.
The problem now is no 357 ammo available.

uuuummmmm....I paid $450 for my 2.5" 686-4 7 shot.....I can see that for $800 but not that price for a 6" 686

That sounds like the $450 I paid for my 686-5 + 3" that WAS NIB box.

I has been shot substantially since that time.
