Last week, with my entire town blacked out by Sandy and a recent rash of pre-hurricane burglaries, I opted to sleep on the downstairs couch with a loaded firearm close at hand.

What made sense for me was to go sleep wearing my trousers, and I put a loaded Humpback in an Uncle Mike's holster in the front pocket and I slept on my side with the gun pocket up.

I got a good night sleep.

Anyone else ever sleep with a gun in their pocket?

I don't recall sleeping with one in my pocket, but I have spent a lot of time sleeping with one in a holster.

In a situation where criminal activity is elevated, I don't think sleeping with a loaded pistol in one's pocket is far removed from sleeping with a loaded long gun next to you. As a matter of fact, I believe it to be a rather prudent idea. Been there, done that last year after the flood left my neighborhood underwater, and looting was going on.

I've had one under the covers next to me, but I didn't sleep. It wouldn't have helped me anyway cuz bullets don't work on ghosts and such. The silver crucifix was probably more of a benefit.

I did not like the idea of sleeping with a loaded gun left out.

I really do not like the idea of sleeping with a handgun under the pillow.

I once slept with a gun and when I woke up the the next day, it was gone. Never seen that gun again...or even heard from it. That was the last time I ever slept with a gun.

I can hear sipowicz now ... "It never calls! It never writes! Wahhhhhhhhh!"

This is the Humpback:

I think it is an early 1970's vintage.

Ooohh. That kinda humpback. I thought he was talkin' 'bout a whale.

I did wonder how he got it in his pocket, but folks is wearin' awful baggy pants, nowadays.

Early in LEO career I fell asleep working mids a time or two on slow nights, usually in the dead of winter. I guess that qualifies since I was armed, in uniform and sitting in my cruiser.
