I would love to see a small framed 5 shot 45 acp revolver

Something similar to the Charter Arms 44 Bulldog only made by Smith with the newer alloys and a 45acp length cylinder that used 5 round "full moon" clips.

Like the 969 only alloy components and a .20 shorter cylinder and frame opening. I guess I could live with the standard frame and cylinder size.

Small gun, Big bullets, quick reloads and easy to get ammo.

I'll take mine with a 3" barrel and round butt please.

I see a 696 for sale for $1150, but if I bought it I couldn't bring myself to rework the cylinder and rebarrel it. I wonder if the outside of the cylinder could take 0.010 cut. No cylinder stop cut to worry about. Oh, the temptation!

Ditto. Maybe 44 spl or 45 Colt instead of or in addition to 45acp. I've seen some S&W 5-shot 44's but nothing close to being as small as the Charter Bulldog. Charter Arms proved it is possible years ago, and with the current popularity of small concealed-carry handguns it would undoubtedly be a big seller.

I have a Charter arms 44 Bulldog and like the size and it works OK. But, I would much prefer a Smith of about the same size in 45ACP. I did some measuring and a Bulldog cylinder would be extremely thin and so would the forcing cone chambered for a 45acp. But it wouldn't have to be that much bigger.

The problem with Long Colt is you would need quite a bit longer cylinder than a Bulldog sized frame could handle.

Thing about an ACP revolver of this sort would be the quick no bulk reload ability of the moon style clips, short case for full extraction and the ready availability of a variety of factory ammo. I can buy 500 rounds boxes of ACPs near here for a pretty good rate. Now way with a for my 44 special or my long Colts. I reload anyway, but it is a factor. Plus, I already have a couple ACP/45LC convertibles. I would dump my 44 spec stuff if I had a small light 45acp revolver. I would like to trade my 629 for a another 25 or 625 in Long Colt anyway.

I sure can't fault your reasoning. 20 or so years ago, the argument for 45acp ammo over 44 sp or 45LC was even more convincing.
S&W, are you listening?
