I am interested in finding a 9/40 for a woman with small hands . But NOT a sig p250, as when last I went to the range , my son and I both had problems with those sigs.

Some brands/models:
S&W Shield
S&W 3900 series (out of production I think but can be found used)
S&W M&P Compact with the small grip insert
All Kahr models are slim handled guns

Shield9? Grip width and length are smallish. Seem to be hard to find though in some areas.

A friend of mine has recently been shooting my M&P9c with the small grip. She is 4'9" and finds it comfortable. Previously she had been using a 3" J frame. My guess is she will be switching permanently, soon.

MP9c

Another vote for the MP9C. I've had mine for years and use the smallest back strap which fits my short fat fingers very well. One of the best point and shoot pistols I've ever fired. Very concealable and a pleasure to shoot even with +P's. It took a couple thousand rounds but then the trigger got waaay better.

What was the problem that you were having, the P250 is a very good adaptable platform, that dao trigger pull is long but very smooth and consistant and in my opinion probably the best dao trigger on the market without having to dump any money into the gun. It however is not for everyone.

As far as a small semi there are many, depending on how much you want to spend, Kahr's, Keltec's, etc. If it was the grip size and lop that was not to your liking I don't think the M&P will do anything for you either. The best I can recommend is to find a place that you can rent as many different guns as possibly and have the lady shoot them to see what fits her best.

problem

I took my lockbox gun to the range and only got off 1 shot. broken extractor. I have since read that this is fairly common. My sons gun had the firing pin get stuck in the fire position. Friday the thirteenth coincidence or a problem with reliability on two different P250's. don't trust them anymore. Probably going M&P 40C

Has your wife tried to shoot a 9/40 and stated she wants a smaller frame, or are you assuming?

Reason I ask is that I'm of the firm belief that when buying a self defense gun, the recipient should have the say of what they want, and not have one gun or another forced on them.

WIFE

I just gave her a blindfold test to see what felt better in her hands and she chose the S&W M&P40C over the sig P250C
