I screwed up last night. Primed 200 Winchester 357 mag cases with 200 Winchester small rifle primers .was going to load 125 hornaday XTP.for a Rossi M 92 lever action. I have several different powders was going to use 4227.should I pull and start over .try different powder .

No problem using SRP in a Rossi. The cup may be slightly harder or not. I know CCI SRP's are thicker but they all fired just fine.

During the primer shortage all my .357's were loaded with SRP's.

Bruce

Tested Winchester SRP's in the past as well. They have a thicker cup but fire without problems in my Marlin, Blackhawk and S&W revolvers.

No need to pull and start over .
The Rossi rifle will not notice the slightly heavier cup thickness and will pop them easily . Not enough pressure difference between the primers to warrant changing your load .
Test the load for reliability and accuracy ... you may find the rifle primers more accurate !
Good Shooting ,

A K-frame with light springs might have a hard time setting off the rifle primers, but you're Rossi should be fine. Mine hits the primers hard.

There is quite a bit of info on the 'net from people who used small rifle primers in 9mm during the shortages, some of them switched permanently.

Don't start out loading all 200 of them. Follow good practices when switching components and do a quick re-do of your initial load workup to verify that it's safe. Do that once and you'll have another recipe in your notebook....

Edit to add: scroll down to the similar threads section. On my screen it's full of threads on this exact topic.

Primers are fine, shoot them.
How do you like your Rossi? I’m in the market for one and would like your thoughts.

Love the M 92 very accurate and I feel better about letting the grandkids shoot it instead of my real M 92s.it shoots 38s with no problem but I stick to 357 mag.

When I load specifically for my 1894 Marlin 357 magnum I use CCI 400 primers. I've used the small rifle primers with both IMR and H 4227 powders with very satisfactory results.

I did such a test with 9x19s. Really wasn't much of a difference with the powders I used in the test.

Relatively quick powders in a small case.

Certainly nothing negative.

Seems like the SRPs would be a good match with 4227 in a .357 case though.

Primer comparison, SPP -vs- SRP in 9x19

Not a problem. The Rossi 92 is a strong action. The old Winchester 92's were actually stronger than the model 94s because of their larger locking lugs. And SRPs will be no problem with either failing to fire or excessive pressures. Like others here, I have been using SRPs instead of SPPs for all my handgun loads over the past two years or so because of the shortages.
The only caveat would be if you are loading for revolvers, and then you only need to back down a grain or two at the high end.

I loaded a bunch of .357 with SRP and I also shoot them out of a Rossi 92. I have my sights set up for 180 grain bullets at just under max loads. The 92 is an awesome levergun.
