What is the smallest Smith 38 special in stainless with a hammer. I am not sure. Not interested in nickel

My Model 60 no dash is as small as a J-frame gets. With the correct minimalist grip, it can be made nearly invisible, in hand or in pocket.

Yes to all the above, but I prefer the 649 simply because it's a bit less troublesome in pocket carry and can be fired from inside clothing. Weighs a little more, but just slips in the pocket a little better with no threat of a spur-snag. BUT....I love them both. I also have a 640 that fits in this family as well.

DRY FIRE for practice only! Can't afford to ruin a good jacket and sure as he!! don't plan to shoot from the front pants pocket. Can you visualize somebody pointing their leg at a BG. That may be enough to make him run.:D

I said "it could be"....not that I ever did it.

It's a beauty! I have a ND and a dash-2.....looking for a dash-1.

Hey....if you need to practice pocket-shooting, CAJUN will loan you his jacket.;)

Technically the smallest .38 Special is "The Baby Chief's Special" from the very early 1950's (only came in Blue & Nickel). The grip frame is about 3/8" shorter, the trigger guard is rounder and smaller too. Since they stopped making that model in 1952 I believe, your next practical "smallest .38 Special" will be one of the model 36's or 60's made from the mid 1950's to the late 1990's. Once they went to the stretched J Frame they did get a little bulkier.

IMHO the BEST they ever made was in the mid 1990's and is called the Model 60-7. That model has the improved front sight width, special heat treating for +P rated use, wider smooth trigger, was still all forged, still had the original frame (not stretched version) came with wooden Factory grips; and best of all did NOT come with the I/L. The M60-7 is stainless.

The only reason I ask is that one of my biddies did it a long time ago. Set his coat on fire . Forgot he had his zippo in that pocket:eek: Ruined a coat AND a zippo :D
