smith 337

I bought it in the late '90s or 2000, can't remember back that far. It gets carried every day.

337 shoots LOW

I have one of the original 337s like the one pictured in the previous posts. Like one of the other posters, I bobbed the hammer, installed a tritium front sight and did an action job.

The gun has always shot low, roughly about 4" at 50 feet with HBWC (and most other loads). When it had the original sight, it was much worse than this but I had the gunsmith shave the bottom of the tritium front sight (as much as he could without hitting the gas vial). I just did some load tests this weekend (FBI load plus several handloads), and the only load that hits at elevation was one using a 200 grain cast LBT LFN bullet. Sadly, that heavy bullet hits to the left of the black.

Most loads will print in the black of a 50' NRA target at 50' if I center the white dot (tritium dot) with about the bottom third not visible. This isn't very precise aiming, and I get vertical stringing.

I'm guessing that the low hits are due to the tall aluminum sight ramp on the 2 piece barrel. Does anyone else have this issue with the 337 shooting low?

FWIW, the best load I had for hitting correct on windage and grouping was with an LBT Ogival Wadcutter (essentially a short RNFP with a very wide meplat of near 0.3") and a near max (non +P) charge of Unique.

Hi, i have a 337Ti, LNIB, that i bought a couple of weeks ago, very light i just bobbed the hammer , as i will use this light revilver for bu pocket carry, .like new faux leather box, all paperwork ,etc...it is just like the one pictured above, same box, i added crimson trace grips to the gun, but may not keep them.
