Came across both models the 17-6 has correct combat grips box etc and full underlug The 617 no dash has smith wood grips that are nice but not combats not sure of name but older wood smith grips. Having a hard time deciding which one to get both are in good condition so does it come down to blued vs stainless? Pretty much or is the no dash better in some way ? Any input would be appreciated thanks in advance

They were produced at the same time so are as close to carbon/stainless steel twins as possible. The 617 should have the Combat fingergroove stocks.

Bottom line, personal preference (and asking prices) would help decide.

Do they have identical triggers and hammers? I shoot my k-frame .22s in single action 99% of the time, so I actually think a target hammer and trigger are useful. But everyone is different. If these things matter to you that may help you decide.

I have owned both. The combat stocks are pretty precious in value, and I like them, they fit me well. I also have a strong preference for target hammer and trigger on these revolvers. There is no difference between a 617 no dash and a 17-6 other than stainless and blued steel. My personal preference goes to the 617, no worries about blue wear and much more resistant to rust and corrosion, but that's just me, others would prefer the opposite.

From a collectors standpoint, I believe the 17-6 was produced in much less volume, therefore might have a little edge on the value over the long time. I can say the one 17-6 I had (when they first came out) was hands down the most accurate revolver I had ever owned, including a couple of other Mod 17's and a 41.

For the same reasons mentioned above - the blued 17-6 would be my pic. I am not impartial though!

I would negotiate hard for the pair.
The Ss will be a lower maintenance finish but the blue was made for a very short time.

On a side note I have both in 4" and 6"
Both my 6"ers have a wide tt and th,
both my 4"ers have a combat trigger, combat stocks
and the narrower hammer spur.
Btw I swapped the fg combats on the 6"ers with target sticks so both are
full target and both 4" ers are full combat.

I honestly think this was a case of "heads, you win; tails you win". There was literally no wrong choice. :D Although my K22 is a good three-four decades older, your Mod 17-6 has great genes!

Now go out and enjoy it to the very greatest degree ammo supplies will allow!

If that 617 no dash is still for sale at a reasonable price, pick it up if you can (I am very good at spending other peoples $$). It will increase in value, you might be surprised at what they go for on GB. I would also round out the package on your 17-6 if you don't have tools and documents.
