I heard of a part that would make the take down easier than the way of trying to keep both sides pushed down and in. I did a search and came up with nothing did I just dream that? I thought Galloway made it any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have the extended take down plate from Galloway, and while it is not a lot wider, it does make a noticeable difference.

One thing to remember, if you decide to change yours out, the spring is not retained in the SDVE pistols like it is in Glocks...you will need to keep it depressed or it will pop out. (Ask me how I know! :o )

It is one solid piece, so you pull down both sides at once. Pull the slide back just slightly to relieve the spring pressure on the take down bar. You don't push "in" at all - just pull down. Beware a wider take down bar - it will interfere in holstering.

Well that's the problem, there is so much side play, the one side
almost disappears in the frame while trying to push down.

It should be wider inside the frame.

I'll check on it I can't do it because I only have one good hand, but it would make easier for my 16 son to help me with it. Thanks..... armallard

STUL Glock Slide Removal Tool : STUL Glock Slide Removal Tool | Brownells

Almost forgot they make a take down tool for that also.

You can also use a washcloth...a rough textured one works best. Just cover your left hand with the washcloth, so that it covers your thumb and forefinger, and use your right hand to retract the slide slightly. Grasp the take down lever with the thumb and finger covered by the washcloth...the edges of the lever will "snag" in the washcloth and it will be easier to pull down.

I don't think the extended take down lever is wide enough to interfere with most holsters. It doesn't stick out that wide...but then, that's just my opinion. I don't carry my SD9VE, other than in the car, and then it's in a pistol rug.

I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has done this mod and carries in a kydex/leather hybrid IWB holster. If it's not much wider, as GKC indicated, I would imagine it's not going to have any negative effects.

I'm pretty sure it's 3mm wider, if that helps.

What I did to mine was dremel the frame for finger
indents like the original had.

Most don't like this idea.

I didn't measure it, but when I first got it, I was disappointed to see that it wasn't that much wider than stock. I've replaced a number of Glock take down levers with aftermarket, and they seem significantly wider. When I got it in, though, it works just fine, and gives just the right amount of "grip" if you will, better than stock, but not obtrusive.

Again, I've not put this gun in a holster, so I can't say for sure about that...but given how little more it does protrude, I'd be surprised if there is a problem, especially not with a Kydex holster. Now, maybe a very soft leather or nylon, where it might snag...but I don't know.

Those grips from Galloway are not worth a stamp. Cheap, generic.

I agree....not only are they not cut to the contours on the frame, they do feel flimsy. I didn't even try putting them on, once I saw they weren't cut to fit the outlines...I just threw them away. I guess I should have gifted them to someone else here...but I was PO'd so I trashed them. I bought a Pachmayr grip sleeve, and love it.
