Looking for opinions on carry revolvers. Need to get something smaller than my 15-4 4 inch and my 27 6 inch are more than I want to carry. Need opinions on something smaller as well as caliber 38 or 357?

Got a early x-mas present, I was carrying a kel-tec pf-9 all summer in a ankle rig (work clothes) and my 386 nightguard in a forward cant thumbbreak on the weekends but after getting this J frame and a holster this will be with me always. It fits my ankle rig too.Way lighter and concealable than the others

Hi, you will definitely get a variety of opinions on this subject. The consensus usually turns out to be a 2-3" J or K frame, either in .38 Special with +P loads (the Gold Dot 135 gr Short Barrel loading) or .357 with .38 +P or lighter .357 loads. An alloy framed gun (model 38, 442, 642, etc.) trades light weight for more recoil. Then there's the DAO vs. DA argument, holster types...

S&W 37-2,.38 Special,Airweight[15.0 oz. unloaded],made in 2005,DAO w/factory bobbed hammer,no MIM,no lock,blued.Look around,you'll find.I carry a SS 640-1,no lock,in the woods with .357 ammo.

I carry a 340 M&P. Got it direct from the factory on letterhead prior to retiring. Great pocket rocket with the 135 GDHP. It's just for close in work though.

You'll need something bigger for a sustained fight.

As soon as I find some leather for it, I plan on trading in my Colt Cobra as my off duty companion for the 3 inch model 65-2 hottie that I picked up this weekend (thanks Rooster! :D)

I fired just a coupla cylinders full, but it was all I needed to. Al 18 shots were damn near dead center at about 7-10 yards.

It don't get no better than that. ;)

I'll also continue to carry my J frame model 38 Airweight Bodyguard in my front pocket each and every day. That little humpback is a dream to carry but a bear to shoot.

At 6'2" and 350lbs, no...I'm not recoil sensitive, it's just the J frame Airweights pack quite a punch. Of course, the only loads I had with me yesterday were Winchester 125gr +P JHPs.

Standard pressure loads aren't quite as hot.

They were perfectly fine in the heftier K frame 65-2. :)

3" 13 or 65.

2.5" or if you can find it 3" 66. Pre lock of course.

2.5" 19.

Regards 18DAI.

If K-frames are too big, then I cast another vote for the Stainless Steel 640-1

In the summer I carry a S&W pre Model 36 and it fits in my pants pocket easily.

I jump between my 686-4 snubby, when i want to go heavy or the 649 when i go lighter. My wife has the 638-3, but thats little too light for me. 686 is an L-Frame & the two others are the J-Frames.

I carry a round butt 2 inch model ten in a bianchi strong side inside the waist band holster. 3 speedloaders in my right pocket. hardly noticible. To all you J frame guys i say......you never know when you will need that 6th shot.

Happy Holidays everyone!

I carry either a s&w model 60 .38 cal.,or a colt detective .38 cal. Usually I'll carry the 60 because of the smaller size, and less weight. Also, I don't believe accurate follow up shots can be delivered fast, and accurate with .357 mags in a small revolver. Mine is loaded with .38 cal.+p's. A small revolver that is with you is better than a .45cal. left at home.

The lightweights are easier to carry. It's a carry gun, why do you want the extra weight 24-7?

Any light weight like the excellent 442 38 spl I endorse.

Ever since I got my Model 37, I carry more often. My Model 19 2.5" was a big improvement over my Model 10 4" hb in the size dept. But I like the consealability of the 37 and the weight factor. I forget I'm even carrying it compared to the 19.
I'm 135lbs, so smaller is better. ....for me.
