M&P Shield Plus | Smith & Wesson

anyone have one of these, I like the fiber sights. I do not like the poly frame. How is the CT sight? 9mm is good just would like some thoughts on this piece.

I have had mine since they first came out. It is my EDC now and the grip fits my hand perfect and I have large hands. I have carried just about everything in my life time except the G gun. I believe at this point in my life that it will be the gun they bury me with.

I own the Shield 2.0 Performance Center, fiber sights, ported, with manual, saftey and I've got about 2000 - 3000 rounds through it.

Three word summary: I love it!

With that said, the same version of the Shield Plus is next on my purchase list. A 4" M&P Compact may come next, but ultimately both will be purchased.

The primary reason I want the Shield Plus, while already having the Shield 2.0, is because on the Shield Plus, the grip is slightly thicker than the Shield 2.0 and just fits my hand better. I like the additional capacity of the Shield Plus over the 2.0, and also the trigger style on the Shield Plus works better for me than the Shield 2.0

Going with the Performance Center version will give you a little smoother trigger.

As far as the Crimson Trace sight goes, it's no Trijicon or Holosun. I don't own one, but my research on it suggests the CT optic is a reliable low-end optic. I have no intention of acquiring any firearm with a CT optic.

I'd rather pay to have the slide milled for the specific optic I want.

The only disadvantage of carrying a polymer frame gun is that while doing so, you'll lose the ability to make fun of people carrying a gun with a polymer frame.

It's not actually going to melt in the sun.

The lighter weight of polymer makes for an easier carry.

I've been carrying the original Shield since it came out in the Spring of 2012.
through the Years, I've periodically rented the 2.0 and now, the Shield Plus and ya know... While the newer versions are nice, none of them feel that much nicer to shoot than my original (Gen1) with an Apex Tactical Sear.

The Shield is a (relatively) close range CC 'Point & Shoot' pistol, so it doesn't really NEED Fiber Optics/Night Sights/Lasers/Optics.
Yes, those are neat for the range if you're going for pinpoint accuracy, especially with 'Old Eyes' like mine, but in an IDPA/USPA shoot, I've done just fine without them.

I have the Shield Plus Performance Center with 4" ported barrel and CT red dot.....IMO it is an excellent pistol. The trigger is one of the best I've tried on a striker fired gun. The texture and grip angle are spot on. The CT red dot is good, not one of the best but more than adequate for a defensive handgun.

Why be interested in the Shield Plus if you don't like the polymer frame???

I'd skip the CT RDS, but the pistol is solid.

I've got the Shield + Performance Center 4" non-ported, w/CT Red Dot. I've only shot about 400 rounds through it, but it's a great shooter. RD doesn't appear to be super robust, but the actual dot is clearer/sharper than my RMR or 507K.

Personally, I like my Shield Plus, although it's kind of a toss up between it and the P365X, with the Hellcat clearly in third place.

Honestly not sure why people dislike polymer frames. The only difference I really notice is the (usually) lighter weight which is a good thing for me.

As far as the CT red dots, I don't like the one that came packaged with a XD-S I have, it has some issues with clarity and brightness compared to the other red dots I have, and it really doesn't feel that tough. Even the cheap Pinty clones of a Vortex Razor I use on rimfire guns and airguns are better in my opinion.

If there were an optic ready pistol where I had the option of buying it with or without a CT optic, I would get the one without and put something else on it.

Of course this all really does come down to personal preference.

Shield plus

My son has the Shield plus and we have both fired it several times. It shoots well, has a good trigger and nice feel. I can't even tell when he has it IWB. He also has the 4" Shield which is unusually accurate. Some guns just are. Most are average. That one is very accurate.

My other boy just bought a 365 after trying them both. It's really kind of hard to go wrong these days. So many good choices.

I had a Shield 1.0 in 9mm from August 2017 or so, with hundreds of flawless rounds through it. The 2.0 wasn't enough to get me to upgrade, but the Plus was. The Plus is a fantastic pistol, but the only reason I sold my 1.0 was because a good friend of mine needed a carry pistol more than I needed another pistol in my safe.

Smith M&P Plus comments

Have both the original Shield 1.0 with 2500 rounds through it not one issue. Have the Shield Plus now with a couple hundred down range no issues. The Plus is better for me since the mag release is reversible for a lefty along with 13 round capacity. The trigger on the Plus is also a lot better than the original.

Just added Trijicon HD night sights to mine.

Love them larger compact and full size m&p's but have no interest in the sheild or plus version . Checked one out locally but I would rather carry a a m&p 9c or the newe verion sub compact 9mm over the shield . The extra 5.6 ounces means little to nothing in this weight and size class .

MY wife has an old 3.5" barreled m&p 9c and with a flat bottom 10 round mag is the same height but I can carry a 15 , 17 , or 23 round as back up like we have for my wifes m&p CORE .

Good site to compare most handguns .

I have both the 3.1" and 4" Shield Plus and couldn't be happier. Had the Sield 2.0 PC in 9mm and .45Acp and thought they were fantastic. When the plus arrived, and I was able to shoot it at my LGS and factored in the added capacity the 2.0 became a trade in but I did keep the .45acp Shield. I will agree with stanmerrell the 4" is very accurate.
