I've heard on good authority that they will not assemble a gun that did not leave the factory that way. In other words, no custom-fit barrels.

I have heard that they will install factory parts (barrels), but not custom/aftermarket parts. I plan on buying factory 3" barrel from Brownells and having it put on my 65. I will send it to S&W to have it done if I cannot find a gunsmith locally with the correct tools and know how.
