Would it make economic sense for Smith to reissue its single stack line for states like New York, if this magazine limit trend is not reversed? my 908 and 539 could easily be made NY compliant.

I doubt if a reintroduction of the all-metal guns, especially for what hopefully will be a limited market, would be financially viable for S&W. Especially since even making a modern version of the hi-cap 3rd Gen guns would cost them too much. The market wants polymer now.

If S&W did anything IMO, it would be single stack full-size M&P and/or ramp up production of the Shield. I think the latter is more likely than the former though.

Agreed. The all metal 3rd gen. pistols, that is, newly produced editions, would probably have to sell for at least $750, to make it worth while for everyone concerned.

If they could be offered for say, $500, I bet that they'd have plenty of sales.....but I can't see that as even possible.

Just as scwv67 said, if they did anything, it would be regarding their current models. As NY has now a 7 round mag limit, S&W might be forced to discontinue sales of their double-stack pistols there altogether. But, hopefully, S&W will just produce 7 round mags for these pistols.

Maybe S&W (and all firearm mfgrs) should do a "Barrett" on NY and stop all sales and service to the state law enforcement
and state government.

The heck of it is there would have to be more states go the way of NY before the manufacturers would make adjustments.

At first when our new funky handgun laws appeared, they didn't make any adjustments for CA, but I guess CA is too large and a lucrative enough market for them to not come out with CA compliant version pistols... I imagine the same would happen if what NY put into place spreads further.

I would expect the after market magazine makers would also come out with compliant capacity mags as well to take advantage of the "marketing opportunity".

LE sales are a bread and butter source of income for S&W, I doubt they (and the other major players... Glock, Sig, etc. would cut off their nose to spite their face) by pulling a "Barrett".

I may be way off base, but think what Barrett did was largely symbolic anyway. I don't believe there's enough of their product in the hands of local or state LE agencies, nor the demand, that would have made a difference.
