I acquired this wonderful semi auto which is in near unfired condition. It has a stainless frame with spots underneath it looks more like discoloration than rust.
Any idea how to get them off?

Seen this before. First, patience. Then an oil rag. Then a clean pad of copper/bronze wool. It may leave a tint of color. Just rub with oily rag. Dont go crazy on it. Just no steel wool or a Dremel brush. Then wax and rub.
Patience.

Evaporust.

Any kind of mechanical rust removal, be that wire brush, scotchbrite pads or metal wool will have some negative effect on the original finish.

Detail strip the frame then soak it in evaporust for a day.
After which, any rust will rinse off with the sprayer in the kitchen sink.

Then blow-dry with compressed air and oil with whatever your choice.

Note: Evaporust will take the black oxide finish off the sear spring. And it'll take blueing right off.

Cheers
Bill

I'd send that to Smith and Wesson and have them re-blast it.

When they're done with it, it'll BE new. I have a 4566 that doesn't look nearly as bad as yours, and I sent it to S&W. I haven't gotten it back yet. But I've sent a couple of revolvers to them, and they came back looking factory-new. I think their prices are fair.

Thanks
I saw a video on Youtube using vinegar and baking soda with a earbud?

That really worked slow and steady all the marks are nearly gone!

It has a stainless frame...

The DAO 4056TSW pre-rail was only made in 1997 & reportedly only about 1100 were made.

It's the only all steel compact 3-1/2" .40 that S&W made & if you disregard the 3-3/4" 45ACP's with stainless steel frames it's an unique compact in that sense.

It's chunky at 37oz but plenty durable.

Glad you're getting it cleaned up.

Enjoy yours! I do mine.
