Smith & Wesson CSX?

If someone were to look a bit deeper, the company listed the unregistered trademark CSX name in the Annual Report ending April 2021, hidden within the long list of trademarks several pages into the report, and they applied for the trademark in Dec 2020.

The lines of the frame look like pretty clean aluminum manufacture. The idea of a small Single Action pistol, with ambi slide stop and thumb safeties, will may find a lot of enthusiastic buyers. Adding replaceable back/palm straps to a metal frame would be icing on the cake for some folks.

Of course, carrying a cocked & locked pistol means some attention to safety and additional manipulation, but the same can be said for 1911's, M&P's with the manual safety option and a number of other makes/models.

I have no information about this new model, as I stopped attending armorer classes in the last few years (my former agency just went from M&P's to the 3.9" SIG P320 w/factory RDS, so I rather doubt S&W will be sending anyone there to teach S&W classes in the near future :p ).

It's always been my understanding that S&W corporate conducts and takes market focus results very seriously, even if they don't produce the results that some aficionados might wish. :D

Nice to see them put some attention back on metal-framed guns. The design looks like it was made to directly appeal to a segment of the private owner market, and not specifically for LE/Gov. I could see it become a popular off-duty or secondary choice for the cops who have the training and knowledge of running a cocked and locked SA weapon, though, using an appropriate holster.

Hope it works out well for them. :)

Probably not for me.

But for someone looking for a 1911 style pistol with modern upgrades it may be just what they're seeking. All comes down to the trigger though. Best be as good as a 1911 trigger for it to be a hit.

I never cared for the 1911 even when my old dept approved it. I had shot them for years in competition (PPC) its just that I didnt like all the safeties, especially knowing that after the initial training most officers would just do there monthy 30 round qualification for the first year and that was it. But it was VERY popular, especially the trigger, and we witnessed a small improvement in some officers scores , due to that.
I stuck a hammer on my PC 6906 , and even though the first D/A shot never bothered me, I liked that many years before, the dept had come out with the policy that you could thumbcock your semiauto if the need for a precise 1st shot was encountered. This policy came out of a shooting where an ex swat officer (1911 trained) promoted to a field SGT and could no longer carry a 1911. Great guy, by the way, He thumbcocked his 4506 to head shoot a hostage taker at one of the consulates or something like that , even though it was out of policy. During the shooting review it was determined to be acceptable (especially since it went right) and the policy was changed. I immediately put hammers on my 6906 and my wifes 4513. I know, I know, I say I like more ammo but Im really a wimp. Anyway I always felt it was the best of both worlds. Nice S/A shot if time allowed or fast D/A shot if in a hurry, without all the active safeties. So while this gun looks interesting, its nothing I would be interested in. As long as good compact 3rd gen models especially P/Cs ones can be found.. Now a P/C semi-single stack 3913 type weapon, holding 12 Im in........

I'm actually pretty excited about this one.

I always wanted to see some sort of a resurrection of the 3rd gens... but, seeing this, I think I actually just want a quality, metal-framed carry gun with a nice trigger and a good feel. Sure, you can find that in mini 1911s nowadays. But they're expensive and they can be finicky. Do I wish it was DA/SA? Yeah. But SAO with a good safety works for me, too. I carry a BHP condition 1, sometimes.

It may not be a 3913... but if it shoots well, carries well, and feels good and solid in the hand... I guess it doesn't necessarily need to be a "3913." So, I'm glad they're trying for something new. If it shows itself to be reliable the price stays around a grand... I'm very interested.

As far as the look...

I don't mind it. It's got the overall M&P aesthetic (which I like--I just like metal, hammer-fired guns more than I like the way M&Ps look) with a touch of 1911 rakishness. I actually really dig how they integrated with the removable backstrap with the alloy frame. It looks "functionally elegant" to my eye. I guess the forward serrations are a little... intense. But whatever. I can live with that.

Very interested to hear more about this one.

What the heck is going on in the beavertail area. To my eye there are all kinds of separate parts and join lines visible. What is that about?

Is the guy thumbing back the hammer? Is it supposed to be cocked in that picture or on some kind of half-cock notch. Again, looks odd.

The width will be an interesting parameter. Look at the way the safety and slide lock look to be melted into the receiver. I wonder if S&W decided that the only way to make a truly slim gun was to use aluminum. The slide looks tall, but maybe that's an illusion created by the slim dust cover. In fact, the dust cover looks too shallow to take a regular diameter recoil assembly. Hmm, some design sorcery, perhaps?

There’s a guy over on the Armory Life forum that claims he bought a CSX the other day.

Not my usual area, but a surprising and welcome addition to the S & W lineup (the "Chiefs Special Ten/Twelve"). Metal frame, attracts the non-striker action liking crowd, and compact. I'm sure the "TSW" version with rail, optic cut, and other features will be along shortly.

I stuck a hammer on my 3913, 4516, & 469. It’s the only way to fly. GARY.

Watch S&W place a 850 dollar plus price on this csx and sale will be s l o w .
I like M&P pistols better than other striker fired brands and we have 4 of them but this old man still prefferes a thin 45acp or 9mm 1911 for carry . Only have 7 years of wearing a double stack daily on my side out of 34 years of concealed carry .

This new CSX looks cool. Idk guys, I just like pistols. Big ones little ones. Hammer, striker, SAO, DA/SA… they can all be fun and also useful tools, as long as they go bang when I pull the trigger, they fit my hand, and they have a good trigger and sights.

This pistol is kinda weird looking but not in a bad way. It looks like a weird 1911/M&P mashup, but I own and enjoy both of those designs so that’s not a problem. I’d like to know more!

Theres a number of videos out today on the csx on you tube and its a shield plus size and weight pistol so whats the point ! No Interest for me . Oh yea - 6lb plus SA trigger pull sort sucks too .

A small carry for me would be a officers size 1911 or my wifes m&p9c .

I will let others go first. The gun is intriguing but I have desire to help Smith debug it.
This is a smart move.

The reality is that this applies to everything that S&W ships.

It hasn’t always been this way and I don’t believe it always has to be this way but it is this way now.
