From the short bit offered, it looks like a direct competitor and lower cost alternative to the Wilson EDCx9.

I could see my best gun bro grabbing one of these, so this kinda excites me just for him. I bet he will be on the early QC staff (unpaid of course!) for this one!

I'll report back if that happens.

Okay, while that is a point — I would ask how relevant a point that is to S&W. This is company that debuted the M&P 10mm… only about a dozen years later than the public begged and cried for it. This is the company that released the S&W Governor after all the goofballs that actually wanted a silly .410 revolver had ten years of throwing money at Taurus.

So yes, solid question, has S&W done the market research?

Lemme ask this… how often DOES Smith & Wesson do their research on what folks want?! While CZ, Beretta, FN and SAR keep making and selling DA/SA metal frame handguns, S&W long ago gave up on their legendary 3rd Gen pistol and all evidence suggests that S&W does not really genuinely care what we think.

Yet "We" keep buying their products and making them rich.

My last new S&W purchase was in the early to mid 90's I think. I do own one of their Shield 45s, which I really do like. However, all of my other S&Ws are pre-lock revolvers or 3rd gen pistols. I do like the fact that the hammer is exposed on this one. Hope to fondle one soon.

I would like it in DA/SA also. I don't trust "cocked and locked" (Condition 1) without a grip safety. The thumb safety is too easy to accidentally disengage IMHO. In DA/SA, with hammer down/safety off configuration, it would probably entice me to drop my Glock in favor of it for EDC.

BTW, it took me quite a while to get used to carrying a Glock for EDC. I'm EXTREMELY careful putting it in and taking it out of holsters. Once the trigger is covered, not so bad. With a hammer DA/SA gun, the trigger pull is longer and you can put your thumb on the hammer to detect movement while holstering.

I can't disagree with a thing you said. If it's supposed to be "the new CS9" then they missed the mark.

It looks like a 1911 and a 45 Shield had an ugly baby. And is that fidget spinner, Glock trigger safety supposed to take the place of the grip safety? I'm not sure what market this thing is satisfying.

It reminds me a lot of my
CZ P–07, which is the pistol that got me into Hammer fired instead of Striker Fired, and I never turn back.

This might be good for someone who wants a 1911 that doesn't look or feel like a 1911. It'll be interesting to see what the price will be on the CSX.

Interesting. CSX was the logo for a railroad freight line in my area for a generation.

Still is. Although I miss the C&O/Chessie System with its kitten.

CSX locomotives are almost as boring looking as Norfolk Southern locomotives.

why S&W would pick this as the name is beyond me. I have/had a CS9, and a SAO just makes me scratch my head.

A Smith & Wesson version of the CZ P-07 with a M&P grip would be fine with me, but that'll never happen. My 5906 is nearly the perfect pistol except for the weight.
