Smith & Wesson MOD 36-6

I would like to know what do I have....I recently acquired a new and unfired 3" revolver.....it comes with the blue box, all the paperwork including the cleaning pack(sealed). I would like to know what I have....any and all your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

It states MOD 36, full lug adjustable sights 38 special on the box.

It's a small frame revolver used primarily for concealed carry.
Yours appears to be a target model which is less common then the typical model 36, would love to see some pictures.

That's the thing, I am unsure what I have....I am not a revolver guy...but, I wanted to see if this is a gen that I should keep or trade/sell it....best place to ask is here my S&W family

Location has a lot to do with value, I believe if you paid $600 or less you got a steal. But that's just a guess, I would further guess the value to be about $800 possibly as high as $1000.

This is a desirable gun. I looked for one for years before finding it. I have seen production numbers of 615 and 2000 for this model. It is the blue version of the Model 60-4. One thing to be careful of is that the finish, a dark blue almost black, is not as durable as the blue usually applied to S&W revolvers. You should check under the "rubber" grips for moisture accumulating and causing rust. I replaced the grips on my gun with J frame targets and it looks like a mini Model 586.

Pretty scarce gun, especially in the condition as pictured. Only made in 1989, as mentioned total number varies, depending on information source. I would agree on the value of $800 - $1,000. Maybe a little more, depending on the demand in your area. Nice acquisition!

According to S&W Historian Roy Jinks, S&W made 2,000, not nearly as limited a run as some of the earlier Target models. The product code is 101549 and the serial numbers generally run in the BEAXXXX series. Would you be willing to share your gun's serial number for those of us who maintain databases?

I've seen the asking prices bumping $1,000 recently, but I don't believe I've seen one go for anywhere near that. I view that as rather a pie-in-the-sky belief on the sellers' parts.

I bought one quite a few years back for $399.00. It had set on the shelf of a local shop for a while. There weren't a lot of holsters made for the 3" full lug with sights in those days.

As noted above, the bead blasted finish doesn't wear quite as well as a regular blue.

Another S&W that was overlooked for years before folks started taking notice. My son has it now.
